Do you dislike smoke alarms?

I kinda haveta side with this statement. I s'pose we could debate about the severity to which one might be affected. But all in all, the little thing is supposed to make you wanna panic and run. That's kinda the idea, no? I can just imagine how seriously anyone might take an alarm that quitely clears it's throat, "Ahem. Excuse me, Miss, but there seems to be a bit of smoke in the air. How would you feel about exiting the premises for moment, eh, Luv?"

I can think one reason: They save lives.
I doubt there is anyone that likes the sound.
But I don't mind going on record as saying that I appreciate the value of the appliance. I just wish they came in decorator colors and more sophisticated styling. Would be so much easier to accept ina home if they at least looked half-way decent.
Guess I'm not "normal" but then that was pretty much a given from birth.

OK, I'll rephase the question; Does any really like the SOUND of a smoke detector?

We've disabled all the smoke detectors in our house...
Apart from the noise..(cheap detectors can emit a constant almost inaudible squeal.. and any detector with a flat battery chirps all night)... we put in a wood stove for heating/cooking and every time you fed it a detector would sound off.

It's not the inside of the house we worry about.. it's the drought ridden forest in which we live that is more likely to render us crispy.

home staff or family only ever do testing of the fire alarms when others have taken am out,they dont even tell am when its going to happen anymore because the thought of them going off can also set off.
every time they are accidentally triggered,they set off powerful meltdowns and seizures.

the alarms they have in the residential homes here are the powerful industrial ones that can be heard down the street,and if a resident floods the top floor-the fire alarm can be left going on and off constantly for days as due to health and safety crap,LD services wont allow any residents to stay there with alarms switched off.

They scared me very much as a kid and I got used to them.

Luckily mine hasn't gone off yet in my apartment. My boyfriend hasn't made a lot of smoke from cooking.



They are supposed to be loud and annoying because it gets your attention but it is ten times worse for an autistic. An autie would freak out about it and maybe start screaming and covering their ears while NTs get startled and don't cover their ears and don't start screaming. They just go and open the windows to let the smoke out and maybe turn off the alarm.
Me, I would cover my ears and start crying but then again I got used to it so I didn't get scared anymore and cried. But they still startled me. I disabled the one in my house when I moved out of my parents.

They don't just startles me, they physically hurt me. I hate them!

smoke detectors dont annoy us like they do NTs, THEY HURT LIKE A b***h!

Since my hearing is hyperacute, smoke-alarms are mind-shatteringly loud.

When mine goes off, I'll do anything to make it stop. I'll try to smash it, bash it out of the wall or ceiling.
