I wouldn't say that I'm phobic of balloons, not exactly, but in the hands of an insensitive or unaware person, ballons can easily put me into a panic/anxiety attack to the point where I can hardly function and need to go and curl up someplace dark.

At the bakery where I work, we have to inflate both latex and mylar ballons with helium. I absolutely cannot stand the suspense of cringing while someone else does it, because the other workers blow them up too quickly and pop them, or make them squeak a lot. The result? Even though I abhor balloons popping, I've become a control freak about inflating them and insist on doing it every time it needs to be done.

Loud noises used to startle me but because I've been working in automotive for so long it no longer bothers me. You can honk the horn while I'm under the hood and the most I'll do is look up at the windshield to see who did it.

*hand goes up*
thats me too.....

People know how jumpy I am and think its a hoot to spook me. Thought I was gonna have a "heart-a-stroke*" one time when I was standing next to a truck inside a building that backfired!! !!

*the term Heart-a-stroke is a made up name for when you get so scared that neither one is sufficent to describe the feeling.....
