no, absolutely not (otherwise what would I be doing on this forum). what I mean is pretty much what Callista said above- I haven't seen the show, so I don't know how apparent it was that the first 2 kids were autistic. there is always a chance though that the rest of your progeny is going to be severly disabled, with Rett syndrome, autoimmune diseases, LFA etc

Eh, you're supposed to respond to people when they say such?

'I have a favourite character on the show.' doesn't denote that, or imply a response is needed as it's not a direct question.

Silly social communication.

Agreed. If he didn't want to know what his/her favourite character was, then he doesn't need to ask.

It annoys me when ppl do this to me. They make a statement, and expect me to ask about it:

Person - "That was terrible."

Me - "..."

Person - "Aren't you going to ask me what was terrible?"

Me - "Err.. just tell me?"

I saw parts of it and the last 15 minutes. Why were the kids sleeping on bare mattresses? The mattresses were filthy and the mother was wiping them down with bleach? Couldn't she have put a plastic cover around the mattress?

My house is a mess so I don't mean to sound judgmental, but I found the bare mattresses very strange.

The dad seemed aspie IMO.

The younger kids are on the severe end of the spectrum and exhibit the classic destructiveness like tearing down curtains, peeling the walls, fecal smearing, etc... The mother is unable to keep up with the cleaning - she has fibromyalgia - and they can't afford outside help. The father has a hard time maintaining a steady income because he's had to take alot of time off to help at home.

According to the parents, they didn't have clue until the youngest children were dx'd and by that time they already had 6. Apparently the older ones were high functioning enough that noone in the medical or educational systems thought there was anything 'abnormal' that would suggest the need for an evaluation. From what I can tell, the oldest can do the school work and are mostly impaired socially.

So according to most people in this thread, he didn't care what the pyschiatrist had to say.

So he and other people with AS by nature are unfriendly, self centered, and unpleasant to be around.

I am even more embarrassed to have AS now.

I pretty much just killed this thread. What could anyone of you possibly have to say now?

Noo... we just don't like being patronized by psychologists. Like, oh, 99,9% of the human population.

No, the following is killing the thread;
Hitler, a human, was indirectly a mass murderer. Therefore he and other humans by nature are indirect mass murderer.

You see, I might have AS, but even I know the convention regarding the slaughter of any internet discussion is to introduce Hitler and/or Nazis.

Here are the times it will be aired, according to the Discovery Health website:

http://health.discovery.com/tv-schedule ... 83.35595.1

I just get the regular Discovery channel, not Discovery Health.

Boy you are an Aspie through and through.

The psychiatrist said "I have a favorite character on the show". And there was about 10 seconds of silence. He should have said, "What is your favorite character?"

But why? Maybe he didn't care what the other persons favorite character was? I know I don't particularly care. If I don't care, why would I ask?
Same with those stupid, "How are you?" I don't ask unless I really care. So sometimes I do ask, and sometimes I don't. Yes, even if someone says it to me. Because I don't see the point in saying something I don't want the answer to.

If that makes me cruel and self centered then whatever. Personally I just think I'm more honest than most of the population. People seem to have a problem with honesty if does anything other than make them feel good about themselves.

:( I have four kids. One is autistic and the other has strong asperger traits. The other two are still small so who knows. I have not decided to stop having children yet either. Dispite the fact that I'm dx'd with Aspergers as well.

Your statement seems odd to me. Children with autism are still a blessing, and we still have so many happy moments with them. Why on earth would I think their DNA is "crap?"

I wouldn't say that, anymore than I would say NTs by nature are borish, self-centered and dull.

I don't know how the Mormons feel about birth-control measures; I deduce from the names of a couple of the kids that the family are at least Jack Mormons (lapsed or nonpracticing).

As for the boy's response, or lack thereof, why does it bother you so, Kevin? Why is this causing you a problem, to the point that you think the rest of us should be upset too? (Seemed perfectly logical to me - if you're going to tell me that you have a favorite character on a TV show, especially if it's a show I don't watch regularly, I'm probably not going to ask you to elaborate, because I don't care. Life is too short to waste it having pointless discussions of things you don't give a crap about. Of all the factors that have cost me employment over the years, lacking a phony sense of familiarity hasn't been one of them.)
