I stare at my peas, because they're my favourite.

Wow, I didn't know anybody else had issues with just the texture of their food. I thought I was the only one.
I do like onions, but only in specific situations. I like them on burgers, but NEVER cooked. And the onions have to be on top of the cheese, not on the bottom. But the other veggies must stay on the bottom, away from the cheese, because they make the cheese slimey.
If onions are mixed in with something, I will not eat it at all. I have to know where they are that they weren't cooked. I remember if we ate pizza when I was a kid, occasionally a stray onion would find it's way onto my pepperoni (the only topping I like...period) pizza and I would bite into. If I could manage not to vomit I wouldn't be able to eat anymore after that. Ken's Pizza was always the worst at doing that. I also won't eat pizza if another topping has touched my slice. The flavor gets cooked in, you see, even if you pick it off.
I also rebuild cheeseburgers from fast food places when I get them home, as they are usually put together in the wrong order.

Sea urchin?

I've got to try that.

I take it you have to eat the inside of it, not the spines lol.

Is eating uni like eating a starfish?

Staring at other people in public places is rude anyway for some reason.
The main object of the exercise is to eat.

I don't like eating with other people. That's my main thing, more than staring at my food. If someone complained about the way I ate I would stop eating with them and avoid them. That's how I am.
There's plenty of annoying things about others that I overlook and if they can't do the same for me then I don't need to be with them.
That's both my philosophy and policy. Plus, it's survival mode.
I don't really know if I stare at my food. I think I look around and I don't pay attention to what I am looking at. I am lost in thought. I like to eat in the living room anyway. I don't like eating in the kitchen at the table. What I do is fix a bowl of oatmeal or whatever and take the bowl in the living room and eat it while watching television. I feel the most comfortable this way.
I usually like to eat one thing, I get really sleepy and feel so weird when I eat a meal that has lots of ingredients. Recently I made a stuffing casserole type meal in a skillet. When it was finished I put it in a bowl and it was really good.
Whenever I go out to eat I feel so weird afterwards, just extremely tired. I am much better when I eat a few things thrown together instead of whole servings of different foods.

I do this all the time!! ! I hate it when my dad puts crap in my food, if he puts a lot of it in I get rid of it but usually I just make sure I avoid it.

No one really gets annoyed because of it though.

I do. And one thing I've developed over the years is to watch closely for bugs as I eat it. I've had one too many roaches in my food from various restaurants, so I am vigilant about that.

Depends what I'm eating. Some foods require attention. Other foods - things that are homogeneous and hard to make a mess with - I'll read a book while I eat.

That's pretty much what I wanted to say. I mean, if I didn't look down I'd probably knock food off my plate trying to pick it up with a fork.

I've never realised that staring at your food was different *L*. I've always done it, and have a thing for textures, I don't like dry meat, it has to be cooked perfectly or I can't swallow it. Floury apples are horrible too!

When I was a toddler, or a small child, I wouldn't eat strawberries and others sorts of fruit, since the texture of these fruits, when I bit them open, was so disgusting to me, I had to spit it out. Now it is like this earlier situation, though I can swallow them, but I avoid desserts with pieces of fruit in it. I don't like how the textures feel in my mouth, I really dislike them. I only eat apples and banana's.

Sounds a bit like what I do sometimes.
Yeah, depending on the food I can stare it. I am a picky eater.

i've always been a picky eater. don't care for onions, mushrooms or tomatoes. i hate almost every condiment and prefer my food extremely plain. stare at my food to avoid looking at other people. sometimes i catch myself staring at their food instead of them, which is really embarrassing. other people seem to hate anyone staring at their food while they're eating. i'd rather people stare at my food than at me though.

i way prefer to eat alone and often think my food doesn't digest properly when i have to eat with others.

I like very simple foods, too. And eating in public generally makes my stomach tie itself in knots to the point that trying to eat anything will make me throw up.
