I agree that sometimes people on here post questions 'is this an AS thing' when it's clearly a matter of personal preference. However I don't beleive this means that they define themselves by AS. It just makes sense to me that this forum would be filled with people talking excessivley about AS and how it may or may not affect their lives.

Being that it is an Autistic/Asperger's community and all.

Some of the "Does _____ mean AS" questions are excessively trivial sometimes. It also irks me when people act like AS is a black-and-white personality trait and arbitrarily apply their perceived status as justification to call others stupid and thoughtless over a mere disagreement.

Either you are Autistic, or you just so happen to have Autism.

Not everything is linked to Autism.

If I say that I am a blank slate (of experiential consciousness) onto which nature has written an autistic brain-wiring pattern, then i can say that nothing about 'me' is autistic

So it depends how you define 'me' - Every civilisation has defined 'me' differently; most here go with the standard romantic/individualist/enlightenment model, as if they were pieces of autism and NTs were pieces of socialisation

I realise neuroscience has come a long way, but there's a lot of different stuff going on in every1's heads; it's not like you can look inside ppl's skulls and just find different kinds of fruit - It's up to every1 which parts of that activity they 'side with' in defining themselves; for example, I view my intellect as something I have rather than something I am, but I realise many here feel differently and invest more emotional significance in intellect

It's also worth bearing in mind that autism is defined as absence of, meaning that what socialisation we're left with (which is more than nothing) is not in itself autistic, as far as we know_
