Same here. I considered majoring in civil engineering, but it was too much math.

Marcia and Ephemerella, you pretty well sum up my thoughts on the subject. There's no such thing as too long a roadtrip; I've been to all 50 US states and have travelled as many different routes as I could, by car or bicycle. From the time I was three or four, I would look down a new road and wonder where it went. I'm as fascinated now as I was then. I have always liked the mega-interchanges in the big cities, working out just where everything goes.

Oh, last year I had to drive cross country from the desert southwest. I went across the looong dimension of Texas (picked up a speeding ticket) and then down across the Deep South. On that trip, I did a "old smokehouse" tour. I stopped at historic or locally-famous barbecue places all across the South. From Texas smokehouse beef, to Mississippi ribs to the North Carolina vinegar-based pulled pork barbecues, it was all good. I love how, as the roads change as you go from region to region, so does the food, the climate, the music, all of that. In the desert Southwest, there is some really cool off road desert running, esp. in Indian country.

Wow, just talking about it, I want to go again and feel the warm breeze off the Gulf Coast. This is a good time, being winter and all, to get some sunshine in my mind.

Yesterday I started using YouTube's audio switching program, where they let you chose from hudnreds of songs and various genres for your vids. Before I had more just pop/ rock songs for my road vids, now all of mine have electro/ instrumental music which is perfect for road vids

A couple addition road vids:

I-75 in Kentucky heading toward Cincinnati, including "The Bend" on I-75, widely considered the most spectatular view off a freeway in the US
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43EPRtvPVB0

I-65 all the way through Louisville and most of urban Southern Indiana
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1kWCazvx1Y

I-64 about half way through Louisville

Those things are everywhere. Their food's way to greasy for me, I prefer Cracker Barrell for country food

Tim Tex, do you ever take road pics?

Here are some I found at Houston Freeways.com, they are from West Texas and are some of the best I've ever seen

In Louisville

The Louisville Kentucky pics remind me of the interstates you see in Memphis. Same design basically as the Memphis Interstates.

Yes I'm kind've a road geek, read maps when younger, etc. Can navigate pretty good.

heh. niiice :)

the bottom 2 especially. The stereotypical/legend of the biker gangs driving through the country (or desert), truckers doing their work, truck-stops and gas stations, "the wide open road"

XD

yeah. The difference less than 50 miles makes in scenery difference :P

Driving from northern Illinois to Southern Illinois provides a nice contrast, especially if in Spring or Fall

Yeah, Florida :)

But, mostly New Orleans. But it would be hard to go there, too. It would be sad...

Im into geography, so I have learned about the famous roads of the world, the Dalton Highway, the Dempster Highway, the Alaska Highway, Utah Highway 12, E6, M25, the Autobahn system, R62 in South Africa, the Grand Trunk Road, and the Karokoram Highway, but I am not really a road geek. I just know these from my geography knowledge. And no, I never been down any of those roads, but I do drive.

I love the experience of roads and scenery and transition. I actually prefer the limbo state as opposed to the destination. THe destination is often a letdown for me and anticlimactic. it is the experience of being mobile and looking out the window that i love. (someone else usually drives because i am a terrible driver.)

i love maps and atlases. I LOVE THEM.
i do not really remember road names however. it is the visual routes that i remember to a tee. empricail learning and the scenery going by - landmarkings and just BEING in the safe vehicle. music is good too at this time.

When I was young, I was a railroad freak. Mostly subways and electric railway lines. I love high speed electrics.
