Typing; I can always go back and refine what I say without getting frustrated. I can't do that while talking. I have a hard time writing too. My handwritting is SLOPPY!

It's like having a non-comitted coversation. I can talk, but I don't have to worry about social stuff and I can play solitare while talking to someone or listen to music -people usually get mad if you're listening to music while talking to someone. At the same time I can leave whenever I want as well without waiting for some akward social cue.

Depends on whether or not I have reached a level of great comfort with the other person....

I have dyspraxia, I suspect strongly so for me is much easier to talk. I took typing classes at high school because some of the other girls i knew were. After getting 12% in the final exam the teacher said I was the worst typist she had ever seen in her years of teaching.

Strangely I can now type 50 words per minute, I was forced to learn so I could work in an office and have a job but I wish I could go back 15 years and be that crap typist again because at least I was relaxed and healthy before I let society try and force me into an NT female mould because now I am a rigid, tense nervous wreck thanks to office work.

So yes talking definitely.

Long answer: Hell yes.

I suppose the real question is who can touch type, I have to touch type as my keys have not letters on them, each letter is getting a groove down to the rubber contact...
I been typing for years, programming and playing games in the dark (much easier than compared with lights on)

I can type quicker than I can write by hand although, I am told I have excellent clear writing

Writing / typing is a far better method to convey large sums of factual data, which is what I usually (try to) do when I talk anyway.

Talking is hard in itself. Putting thoughts into words is hard.

I usually end up with miscommunications if I talk instead of type. If only typing didn't take so long for me :?

Typing for me. I am very professional and formal in emails to people, but when talking to them face-to-face I turn into a social ret*d and am awkward, unprofessional, and often intimidated. As a former business owner, I did most of my negotiating by email. My lack of ability to hold a face-to-face conversation is what ultimately spelled the end of my business.

Way easier, have virtually no speech at this time in my life, and any speech I have totally lacks communicative content.

Typing is better than writing or talking.

Wow; I wonder what an NT population would say? I'm pretty sure some of them would prefer to type, too, but I bet many more NTs prefer to talk.

It would be interesting to see how many Aspies (who never had speech delays) prefer to type despite having good verbal skills, and whether this number differs, and by how much, from people who did have speech delays. There are probably multiple reasons for preferring text. Cutting out the non-verbal subtext that accompanies speech is one reason. So is the difficulty of understanding and producing speech itself.

You could cut out the non-verbal communication problem (people who like to type because text doesn't involve non-verbal stuff) by asking a question like, "If given the option to enter text by keyboard or by a high-quality voice-recognition program, which one would you prefer?"

To answer, I prefer to talk and I didnt have speech delay. I spoke at average age but it was peculiar talking if you know what I mean  but my motor skiklls have always been lousy from the beginning.

Type, type, type, type! Unless I am talking to friends I can talk to them. But I can NEVER talk on the phone!

Does anybody have trouble with writing?

I have a hard time expressing myself on paper because it is harder to edit, and my writing is incredibly sloppy. It feels like my mind is going faster than my pen. I can type as fast as my mind though.
Teachers have a really hard time grading my papers unless I type them.

I prefer to type and keep a spell checker with me at all times.
When I'm speaking to people they don't really wait a long time for me to respond. So, I end up not explaining things properly and forgetting to say what I really wanted to say. I also stutter and mispronounce words. So, I have no desire to talk.
I have started to come up with things to say to people and hope it sticks in my long term memory. It seems a silly thing to write down possible topics of a conversation, but I feel it's the only way I can be good at it.
And to help my speech problems I have started to read out loud. I hope it helps.
