Writing things down, having schedules and lists, are my life. I'd be lost without them. I am so distracted by so many things that if something isn't written down, I won't remember it.

In fact, I had planned today to start writing some more things down, but then I got distracted by all these interesting posts on WP and....oops.

Well, gotta go. I hear my lists calling my name....

I'm with neshamaruach and the other list writers. Is this another example of where we're mostly one extreme or the other?

Writing thing down? I have no problem with that because I usually write stuff that I keep thinking about during college class while writing notes about the lecture topic.

I am a compulsive list writer, but get too overwhelamed to actually do anything that is written on the lists.

Same here. I'm way better at the writing of the lists, then the carrying it out part. Sometimes, I do surprise myself, though. I also make lists just to make them. There's just something about nicely categorized information that makes me happy. I even started a thread in the random section awhile ago about random list making.

I've been reading a book lately (Animal Farm), and make a list of all of the words I don't know or question their meaning. I define them later. I make it so I can express myself better.

My memory is very unreliable so I often forget things. When I store something in my memory I may forget it. When I write something down it doesn't disappear. 8) Also lists give me more control of my life, but yeah on the other hand they can control you.

Am I the only one who finds it utterly horrifying to be asked to write things down, make lists or make schedules to follow?

No, in comparison to you, I actually love writing stuff down. I want to be an author.

One thing I can't do is make notes in lectures though.

This is basically how it is for me, too. I also think I need to organize my day like this, otherwise it wouldn´t work. And, like you, I was terrible at taking notes during lectures! I tried, and just realized eventually that it was hopeless; I would miss half the lecture! So, I had to try to just remember it all.

One problem I have with writing lists though, is that the "written word" seems to acquire a kind of power. If I write down something that I planned to accomplish that day- then, for some reason, it doesn´t happen- I get very irritated, and it disturbs me greatly. It´s as if, once it gets written down, it´s really "written in stone"! Almost like I´m really compelled to do it....I can´t explain it. Does anyone else know what I am talking about???

I can never remember my mental lists. That is why I write them down. I write my lists in pencil and I have an eraser. That way I can erase what i don't like, making it no longer "written in stone".
