When I was around five years old my parents had to go out of town so they sent me to stay overnight with my regular baby sitters (sisters). At bedtime they put me in the guest room in an old feather bed that had about eight quilts as the top layer and I found nirvana that night. The weight of the covers were so heavy that I could hardly turn over sideways but ever since that moment I've know how to feel good. It's a kind of like being back in the womb thing where compression was so normal for us previous fetus people.

I like when my kids lay on my back or when my 40 lb dog lays on my legs:).

Ok, so I've definitely got to get one of these. He's very much a "deep pressure to calm" guy. Right now he's probably doing "OK" because he has a duvet plus a doubled up heavy blanket on top. But we live in a cold climate. He'll steam-cook when we move down to the Gulf coast next year.

Come to think of it that extra heavy blanket on top was a fairly new addition, because of entering winter. LOL, he might be more geared up in the morning because he slept better. I guess that leaves me with getting him up an extra 30 minutes early so he's got time to stabilize himself before the rest of his morning routine. It's going to be a very good day when he can be trusted to go for a morning walk/run by himself. :)

Now it's onto some testing by my son to see how much weight per square foot works for him so I know what to order.

P.S. Outside this board I've talked to someone that mentioned that their son, prior to some medication, would pile so many blankets on top of himself that he was having problems with acid reflux. 8O I shudder to think how high the pile was. He'll also ask his dad to lay on him as he finds this calming, and his dad is NOT a slender man.

The weight thing by the way isn't necessarily uniform. I find much more weight on my feet is best. I've had friends who wanted more on their shoulders and less on their feet. Keep the windows open in the winter or the A/C running in the summers to counteract the temperature differentials.

Reading this thread I was thinking that he was maybe so active in the morning because he'd had a good sleep, but I see you've got to that thought already!

I've noticed that my son definately sleeps better with two duvets, but that won't work in the summer when it's warmer, so was wondering about weighted blankets.

Many people here seem to sidetrack around some of the 'nasty' things about how we are and with respect to this thread you have to understand that sleeping in a bundle creates sweat, year round, so you have to get used to the idea that the bedding might become a little 'rank' at times. Don't worry about whether or not the kid can 'survive' under a bunch of blankets at night in the summer time. He'll make his own adjustments as he sees fit.

LOL, here I though I was going to need to get him up early. :x Loaded him up last night with another 2 heavy but not so hot woven cotton blankets. Asked him how it felt. A matter of fact "good". Total weight of all blankets was 17lb, by my bathroom scale. Mostly on his torso where he likes "squeezes", though he rearranged them some. This morning he was up and lively over an hour earlier than we usually extract him from bed. Quickly got out his clothes and dressed himself when he was told (as he was climbing the kitchen counters looking in vain for his Nintendo on top of the cabinets  ) no DS-Lite till he was dressed. Zowzers. I guess he hasn't been getting as much rest at night as it appeared.

Thanks again everyone for the help!

That is awesome!! !! I should try this with my youngest. I don't think he's AS but he likes lots of pressure and such. Very hard to get him up in the morning!

I sleep with a heavier blanket bunched up and have to sleep against something-- like either on a couch or a futon. I also have to clutch something such as a stuff animal and I'll sometimes sleep with a pillow over my head instead of under it. =p Just how I like to sleep.
How can you breathe ?

I'm the opposite. I put more than one blankets on me when it's cold to keep me warm and it feels nice and comfy. I did that in Montana when I go to bed to keep me warm and then I decided to use the heater so lot of blankets weren't needed.
