I have issues eating certain types of foods, for example, I can't swallow raw carrots because of how they feel in my mouth, even though I love the taste of them. Are issues like this common in AS people? Does anyone else have similar problems?
Yes!!
I absolutely cannot bear the texture of onion in my mouth. I can't stand the way that it's at once crunchy and slimy. Even imagining the feel of one right now is making me feel queasy. But I can eat onion flavoured crisps just fine. Nobody ever gets this when I try to explain it to them - now I know I'm not the only one!
I like onion rings or crisps. I'm the same way with the texture of onions. I pull them off pizzas, sandwiches, you name it.
I also hate plums, so cannot understand why I have eaten a plum a day this week. It's the skin that leaves a horrible taste in my mouth.
I agree about the plum, I love the inside though, and here is how I worked around that: When I eat a plum, I not let my teeth peirce the skin while its in my mouth in any way, and that pretty much made plums bareable for me.
For a while I didnt eat pears cuz I bit into one and a whole bunch of bugs fell out. This happened when I was 8, and was only 2 years ago that I really started to eat them again. The bug thing horrified me, and the worst part is my parents don't believe me that it ever really happened.
