Intolerance should be overcome
Hey wait.
How about this. I never knew I had an excuse for hating people who made noises. So I did learn to tolerate. Sometimes, it is only a practice in patience and getting your psyche around certain thoughts.
Other times it is one of the most intense things ever, in which case, I am usually in a bad mood.
I go away. Far away. So I can turn off my ears. It feels so wonderful to not have to listen.
If someone told me to get over my issue, in theory, I agree with the sentiment of Who_Am_I, brilliant way of putting it btw, but I don't agree with counter non tolerance.
Maybe, well, I could stop having a neural ear issue, if those neural impulses would just stop for a few.
And let them deduce for themselves what all that entails.
I'd probably tell this person politely I can't, there are some noises I can't stand. Like now, when my dog is barking, or when a person is chewing. I can't stand drills or vacuum cleaners either. There are many more examples. When a person goes further and starts to say it mustn't be that bad, like everyone can overcome his annoyances, I will say I'm an exception and I can't. If it's my mother who says it, I get angry, she must know better since she works with autistic children.

I GRADUATED WITH THE HIGHEST GRADES OF MY YEAR!! !! !
As I still have no excuse for intolerance, except for my intolerance to light since I'm photophobic, I just try to stay patient or I leave the room.
I once yelled at my mother because the sound of her eating was pretty annoying and she answered me that I made a lot of noise when I eat too. I know she's right but for some reason I can't stand other people's eating when I do not eat too. It's pretty hard to ignore, it sounds like some chewing toy for dogs...
I do not like when people thump with their feet either, though I do it all the time !
I feel so guilty for that that I try to be patient...
I find a lot of noises very annoying (basically any organic noise you can think of, depending on my mindset and the situation. ESPECIALLY repeditive noises), so I usually go around with normal earplugs in addition to my musicians earplugs that I often carry around (I do my best to save my ears.) I also have noise cancelling headphones which I often use.
I can't help being annoyed by sounds. I'm hypersensitive to sounds.
Yesterday was horrible. I couldn't stand hearing someone chew, crumple up a paper bag or raise their voice. My hypersensitivity to touch was really bad too. There's no way I can tolerate something that feels uncomfortable on my skin and it's the same with noise.
If someone told you to get over your sensitive hearing how would you react?
well i would avoid hearing their voice again.
i have major sensory issues and i have learned that others can not ever understand.
i also hate the sound of chewing. i can not get my mind away from the sound of things i find distasteful.
they seem to get amplified in my mind because i can not escape them without making a scene (which eventually is the only way out).
chewing sounds are disgusting (swishing saliva and decremental crunching) , but that awful swallowing sound where you hear the bones in their neck flex and also some bubbles get swallowed as well is very severe in my mind.
people burping make me run away (unless they are in my house and they are told to get out). the smell of a persons burp is an absolutely unforgettable transgression upon my clean mind.
i feel that i want to pour disinfectant down my throat if i have to breathe a burp that someone made.
farts are even worse. i will smash a wall down if there are no doors to get away from a fart.
i have been in important meetings where someone has expelled an audible fart, and no matter what is happening i must leave for 10 minutes.
it annoys people that i have to run away, and that annoys me that they get annoyed.
i also dislike the sound of crumpling things. i especially dislike cellophane.
i would not care for the opinion of someone who told me to "get over it"
i live at the end of a long lonely road and my house is nestled in bushland and there is almost never an artificial sound around where i live.
there are no people walking by.
i chose my living environment with much reference to my sensory issues.
if i can go home and do as i wish (alone), then the opinions of other people are valueless to me.
My mum crumpled up an empty chip packet and asked if it annoyed me. Ugh, she does make jokes about a lot of things like that.
But I think we've resolved this issue.
I guess I have to realise that some people will find some things hard to believe if they've never experienced them.
She's not as bad as my sister, who thinks having AS is no big deal, well my whole life she's made it seem that everyone else has had it worse than me.
