By 40 or 50 others? That doesn't seem very representative of the complexity of the questions and issues you mentioned. That sounds like an old home week type of deal where new input is almost discouraged.

Well personally I like to argue with familiar people but yeah, I do hope lurkers aren't actually discouraged from taking part by it seeming so cliquish! That has put me off on other forums before.

hi garyww. i just noticed this the other day also - all the visitors, and it irked me also. I think there is so much to discuss. oh well. and i think the threads can benefit from all sorts of people contributing - not just ASD people. it adds to the mind soup as you say. :wink:

Well, it might be that a lot of folks with AS/autism aren't big talkers. Also, I can imagine that many lurkers are people who stumbled upon Wrong Planet might not be on the spectrum themselves, but are just interested in the discussions. You have to admit that Wrong Planet is great sociology. I lurked for quite a while before joining, and what I learned encouraged me to ask the questions to my psychiatrist that led to my diagnosis.

bring on the lurkers, i say. i would encourage people to contribute. it is a case of finding one's way. I was extremely nervous on WP at first and didn't really understand some of the forum chit chat and took things TOOOOOOO literally and got bruised and offended big time. But i kept on putting posts up and contributing. and now i feel as if i have a place here. this can be hard for somepeople to learn to do. ASD or NT. it is always nice to see new names around.

Look at the numbers. This is a crying shame by the standards of most sites. Probably an avergage of 300 active people online at any given point time and 10 posts at any given point in time. This is not the norm for even the most average of discussion boards. Something else must be at play.

Actually the discussions are pretty silly but where else can you be a silly idiot and still have people accept you.
