I feel stupid just about every time I try to explain something verbally. There's always part of the explanation that I leave out or incorrectly say because I keep assuming that the other person already knows the solution.

The more arrogant/irritated types are always ready to correct me and make me feel as though I don't know what I'm talking about at these points.

Another time I feel stupid is when I ask a personal question from someone else and then have a huge difficulty answering that same question myself. In an incident I remember, I asked someone what their political views were, and they fully told me while I agreed with mostly everything they were saying. Unexpectedly, I was asked the same question, and all I could manage to respond with was that I supported (candidate).

I read the directions if it's complicated. I got something for Christmas, read the directions and still screwed things up one time. Second time I had it figured out and things turned out so-so. Next time, I have a plan formulated that will virtually guarantee my success in this matter.

I always end up missing info and trying to go back and insert it after the fact. What helps me is to use pictures or inanimate objects to help me explain. I was at one of our customer's facilities the other day and was working with our in-plant employee and was having trouble verbalizing a point. So I simply said, "I'm going to use some objects to make my point, but please realize this is to help me and not antagonize you."

I used to think that drawing pictures and such was my way of helping others understand my point; I now realize it's really my way of helping me coherently present the information.
