I have often experienced a so called Déjà vu feeling. I'm not an expert, but I'm just curious to see how many of you here at WP who actually have had this experience. In fact I have asked many people about it, but actually only come across a few who said they had Déjà vu.
My experiences has occured both when discussing matters with people, and when traveling to new places I know I've never been. Often it's followed by a strange sensation, like a wosh sound in the head and like I'm gone in just a second or less.
Maybe some of you have a good story to tell also? This is a subject I've been fascinated of since I was a kid.

I believe that Deja Vu is a segment of a vision or dream that fortold the future that you are going to experiences. A fragment of your photographic memories can have a "jump" which cause a awkward feeling. Not all vision or dream fortold, some are planning and doing to make some accomplishment.

Another things, an awkward feeling could mean that you got your future information at the last minute. This cause the brain to inquired itself of why it getting late information.

Not to kill your theory, which may indeed have merit, but I get deja vu with some regularity, and have done so for as far back as I can remember. It's happened to me a couple times this week already. I always notice it with a mild fascination, explore the memory for a moment, then move on. It's almost ordinary to me, which is probably not a great thing. hmmmm....

The experience for me is always pretty much the same.
When I first notice it, there is an arresting, rushing, "distanced" feeling, which is accompanied by an almost fluid visual state. I am quickly immersed in re-living the original memory being referenced while at the same time experiencing the present moment.... so that I almost feel as if there are two parallel awarenesses within my mind, each curious and a bit awkward to find itself in the presence of the other. Then just as quickly, these two entities swirl together and integrate back into everyday waking consciousness, and the period of deja vu is over.

That's the best description I can come up with.

I get it pretty frequently, and it's pretty much always during random, insignificant events. I just had one the other day while watching a movie I had never seen. When I experience it, I don't really get the whooshing, rushing feeling some of you have described. It's more like I'm experiencing the event while seeing it in my mind's eye at the same time. Like seeing double and knowing that I've seen it before, if that makes any sense. It's a weird feeling, but I like it. 8)

I like it too, glad you understood the sensation thing, cause I felt that bit was kind of hard to explain.
It turned out this tread got longer than I suspected at first, it had a slow start and I felt I had done something stupid.

I experience jamais vu quite often.

Are you serious? That's more serious than deja vu, quite scaring I will say, but interesting. Is that when all known things lose its meaning, like you go out to your car and never have seen it before? Hm..

My deja vu still occurs. The last one occurred when around other people so I announced it. The person opposite me said they'd just experienced one in that moment too.

The jamais vu only happened to me once. I was at home and suddenly had no recognition of the place. It lasted about 20 seconds and was terrifying.

Yes, I am.
It's not scary for me because I've experienced it so much, but it can be... disorienting if it goes on for too long.

From the wikipedia article:

Quote:
Often described as the opposite of déjà vu, jamais vu involves a sense of eeriness and the observer's impression of seeing the situation for the first time, despite rationally knowing that he or she has been in the situation before.

It is quite interesting. Weird things in the mind fascinates me. Maybe Cause I have hade a few real weird things in my mind.
When I was a kid we moved to a new place, us kids used the first day to explore our new big house and the surroundings. I woke early the day after, eager to find out more about the place. That's when I discovered that everything about the house and surroundings was mirrored from what I had decepted the day before.

This has happened to me in the past though i don't get it anymore. I presumed it was one of the side effects of my medication as it had been increased. It could also be that i was feeling very unwell and my mind just got confused.

As far as I remember, yes! It was very strange. I was about seven, but I still remember that odd sensation, when everyting seemed completely mirrored.

I get both deja vu and jamais vu (though I'd never heard of this with a name before).

I can't think of any recent examples of deja vu, but in the past I've had some quite significant ones, usually to do with "knowing" somewhere I'm visiting for the first time.

I had a jamais vu experience the other evening. Driving home on a route I do every day, I completely missed my street, because I just didn't recognise any of the surroundings. When I'd apologised to my wife for getting lost, I even said to her that there must have been work done on the road (which there hadn't), because it didn't look right.

Every few days I have a feeling that there have been subtle changes around me and I'll do things like trying to open doors the wrong way or push instead of pull or walk into the wrong room, absolutely convinced that I'm right.

I've even got to the stage where I think parallel universes are a definite reality and I'm passing from existence one to the other (yes, OK, call the asylum now  ).

I have a lot of odd coincidences happen in my life as well.

The biggest one was when I dreamt about a guy I'd met at uni about 5 years previously. Next night, I went to a part of town I'd never visited before with a flat mate, who just randomly said "let's go to this pub" for no apparent reason. The guy I'd dreamt about was playing in a band there.

This was when I was living in a town no where near my university town or my home town or this guy's town.

Strange, and interesting. I think I maybe had some hints of jamais vu too. In a period when I had a quite high stess level, I quite often opened the fridge, stood for a minute or more, just staring in there, wondering what I'd like to wear that day. I also noticed this door thing. I'm also a complete idiot with keys, loosing, misplacing..etc. Nice to read your post.
By the way, I just called 911, they have brought a nice new jacket for you :D

I have a hypothesis concerning deja vu'. I think it is a false memory of an event or situation not really experienced previously. It is an artifact of the brain. Our brains are always doing tricky stuff. That is why we experience optical illusions and magicians (so-called) are able to entertain us.
