With a few minor exceptions, I cant taste 'subtle things'. for example when I have a smoothy, I have to ask for double flavouring, and when I put herbs on my pasta it has to be in large quantities in order to have any effect. However I can tolerate only a tiny bit of tomato based pasta sauce.
Also, if there is multiple componants of a meal eg pasta and vegies, I have to eat all of one thing first. I will go through and pick out all the vegies first and then go back for the pasta.
Certain foods I like the taste of but cant stand the texture. with things like onions I have to use the powdered version so that I dont have to bite down on real onion pieces.

I can't eat raw carrots for the same reason, they just can't go down my throat for some reason, it is impossible to swallow them.

I also love lychees, they have the perfect taste and perfect texture, nothing is quite as good as they are, and I'm normally more of a meat person.

I am not a picky eater. I will try anything. However I cant mix my foods. They can touch but. I can not take a bite of carrot and then a bit of pies. I can mix certain foods rarely.

I crave sweet-tasting foods, so I really love Chinese. In fact while most people get tired of just about anything if they eat it too often, Chinese is something I do not seem to get tired of eating.

I love Chinese buffets because I can choose what I want to eat and prepare it in my way. I do not mind if my foods touch in this case because I get foods that all go together. I always make my plate as if I'm preparing it for someone else. I start with a bed of rice, which I use the serving spoon to spread evenly around my plate. I then move to the crab wontons and will place 3-4 of them in a semi-circle around 1/2 of my plate. Then I will usually make my way to the sushi bar and pick up a few pieces and line them up along the other side of my plate in a particular pattern. Then I go over to the sesame chicken and grab a couple of pieces, and drizzle the sauce over my rice, crab wontons, and sushi. I will do the same thing with the General Tso's chicken and even honey chicken if they have it. Then I move over to the sweet & sour sauce and will pour it over my crab wontons and rice. Sometimes I will even drizzle it over the sushi as well. Sushi is great by itself, but if I add something sweet to it, then it tastes even better. When I am finished, my plate typically looks like it's been prepared by a chef for a special customer. But in fact it's just a plate I made for myself. I don't know WHY I feel compelled to do this and sometimes I worry that people might notice the care that I put into preparing my plate and wonder what they might think of me.

Food issues apply to me too. Most foods, I find, are unappealing. Spicy food is best because it disguises more subtle and revolting flavors. I survive on little food as a result of it offending my senses, and have to consume prescription drinks from the doctor every day to compensate.

I like few things that are bit weird but the bigger thing with me is that when I eat I don't stop! I eat everything, nothing gets left on my plate (unless it's something I don't like, obviously!) then I ask others if I can eat off their plate ("are you gonna eat that?" is a very common phrase in my house! :D)

I can never understand how people can leave even small things on their plates!

You sound like me, man. I am always eating whatever my wife doesn't eat of her food if it's something I like. I clean my plate... and I mean CLEAN. I scrape with my fork until I have eaten all that I can. Unless, like you said, it's something I don't like! If I eat a McDonald's Big Mac and there are pieces of onion or sesame seeds left, I will eat them all. When I was a teenager and I ate at McDonald's and Burger King a lot with my friends, they always laughed at me over that. And over how slowly I ate, but dammit I enjoy taking the time to taste my food! :)

At McDonalds, I don't get big macs ever... I love them and am cheap with fast food. So I buy a double cheeseburger, like a mac, extra sauce.

I'm in treatment for Anorexia subtype II. I've had eating disorders of various degrees for about six years.

I think it relates too my AS alot for several reasons, but food textures isn't one of them.

My eating habits and extreme focus on body weight are are one of my obsessions. The Psychologist who assessed me for AS mentioned that my body image might be dictated by sensory processing. My view of my body doesn't hint at typical body dysmorpia, I might literally be seeing it differently than it is in reality. She also bases this on the fact that my view of my body can shift dramatically from overweight to average to thin.

You know, I only discovered this little secret recently. I had gone through a McD's drive-thru and ordered a couple double cheeseburgers from the dollar menu. When I got them home and opened them up, one of them was what you describe above. I had never seen or heard of this, but when I saw it I thought, how unique!! Here's the other thing: I was eating double cheeseburgers because they were on the dollar menu and I was short on cash. Otherwise I'd have had a Big Mac. I still got my Big Mac afterall, and only for a dollar. So kudos to those of you who do that, it's a great idea.

In Canada its the $1.39 menu... And they charge $0.20 for mac sauce, but its still cheaper.... Compared to a $3.79 big mac. Plus less bun = better taste, and an extra slice of cheese... Just one of the many things I learned while working there.

Wow, so many food-related issues I can relate to today. I understand where you come from here. When I was 21 I had become pretty overweight and decided to start walking and eating light in order to shed about 40-50 lbs. As I got into my routine I began to start running, and eventually I was sooo obsessed with running and weight loss that I forced myself to run 7 days every week. During this time I would generally eat a Subway sandwich for lunch and not much of anything for dinner. This went on for close to a year before I realized I had become anorexic. I weighed 140 lbs at my lowest, which is REALLY small for my size. I looked like a skeleton and actually still cringe when I look back at photos from back then. Running and weight loss had become my "special interest" at the time and I took it to extremes like I do ALL my special interests (hence I'm on the internet at work discussing AS and related issues).

Just like me apart from two things:

1) I hate MuckyD's
2) My eating speed is certainly NOT slow!! ! I eat as fast as I can!
