Is being a raver close enough? Sure ravers use more chemicals than naturals but...
Oh, G-d, I am indeed ancient. In real life, I would be too cool to ask this, but here, I don't have to pretend, so <eek>...
What's a raver? The only image in my mind is of someone overdosing on ecstacy (the chemical kind) and getting thrown around by lots of other (sociopathic) people overdosing on ecstacy (the chemical kind). I picked up this image from watching TV, so I'm assuming it's fairly warped.
There's different kinds by different countries.
The British: People disaffected by the hollowing out of the industrial land scapes and the general hostility fostered by the IRA bombings. When Thatcher was gone and the IRA stopped their attacks, the youth took to the abandoned warehouses and fields by motorways.

The German: Two words describe them: "Love Parade", look it up. Berlin Wall falls down and people celebrate, yadda yadda.

The American and Canadian raver-types are more influenced by clubs since most electronic genres had their birth in clubs. But the ravers in the Americas gave it an edge that the British and the Europeans did not bother until later.
