I have conversation problems too. Yesterday I tried to make friends with a girl, I tried talking to her but couldn't start a good conversation, what better question than "Do you watch SpongeBob?" :?

This happens to me all the time.

I tend to ask people random questions about themselves and hope they start a conversation. This really backfires if you're trying to talk to another quiet person though, who may only respond with "Ok" and "Sure".

Keeping a conversation going is, for me, not hard at all.

It's starting one, or restarting one after the thread of conversation reaches an end, that's the tough part.

Usually I acknowledge the fact, and whomever I was talking to and I laugh about it, and a conversation starts from there. Of course, this only works with certain kinds of people (science/math or theater/drama types, for example.)

It comes natural to me, so no idea how to teach it to another.

I'd probably have answered:

Yeah, since (date). I take it because (reason). (depending on whether the other is more inclined to listen or to talk, I'll continue or stop.). I think it's ok/annoying/and so on.

Really? Good luck with it. You should really take (some important things) into account. I think that (something about the class or the people).

Oh - depends. (Ramble on about differences and when I understood something or when my friends had trouble.)
