I'm much the same. About a year ago I saw a psychologist for 12 weeks in an attempt to improve my sleep pattern & social skills. At the end of the 12 weeks, she remarked that i was making quite a bit more eye contact than I had at the start. I guess I just felt more comfortable in her presence after that time.

And I start worrying that other people will see any sign of eye contact as proof that my claims of AS are not genuine.

Yes, I hear you on that one! I can make good eye contact nowadays, though I notice that in many mundane situations, like grocery shopping, I just forget to look at people- at all. Don´t know how important that is, though.

I, too, worry that people may think I´m not genuine due to my ability to make eye contact...however, once I started making a concentrated effort to look people in the eyes, I realized how little I actually did this before, and how little I actually saw people in the past.

It varies with me too, I have excelent eye contact with my siblings but it's harder with other people.
Sometimes I sort of practice on people, like I have a go at looking at them but soon look away because when I start making eye contact I'm like *omfg theyre looking in my eyes aaaah look away!*
One of my aspie friends at school always comments when I don't look in there eyes he always says "your looking away again" or "hello I'm over here not on the floor" Im like looking whos talking! he looks all over the place when he talks to me lol
