People with autism can have a learning disability where as people with asperger's syndrome don't have a learning disability hope this helps.

Some people with AS do not meet the criteria for an Autism Spectrum Disorder but they do for Aspergers Syndrome. Were as others meet the criteria for both an ASD and AS - I guess you could say they have High Functioning Autism.

Some one that is assessed and diagnosed with just having AS would come under Pervasive Development Disorder. A other person who fits both criteria would come under Autism Spectrum Disorder. However, they are all a form of autism and different specialists have different opinions. It is hardly worth debating.

Yes they can. Some one with High Functioning Autism can be with out a learning disability and a person with AS can have a learning disability. Autism and/or Pervasive Development Disorders are very complexed. Depending on a person personality, intelligence, wether or not they have ADD etc No one person is the same.

Thanks guys...

It does seem rather complex doesnt it! I'm glad I'm not the one having to do the final diagnosis for DS.

It will be interesting what his diagnosis will be as I believe its high functioning Autism.
