As ManErg says on Greentea's thread, July may not be the best time for the South of France, Italy, ( or even London ), because of the heat and the numbers of people on holiday choking the motorways and filling the trains and hotels, ( the french in particular have very fixed holiday "shifts", July and/or August, and the weekends when they all "change over" are horrendous ).

June would probably be better for those places, or September, which is one of the poll favourites. :)

The poll is only to get a broad feel of the general opinion, not a legally binding vote. Also, there are several less than ideal aspects, such as lack of multiple options, people voting who wouldn't attend anyway. If you set up another poll asking "What is the LEAST favourable month" you could well find that July wins that one too!

June is by far the wisest option, which is why I voted for it

13 votes so far, ( biggest votes for September and July still ).

Greentea's original thread about a European meet-up got 15 "definitely interested" votes, 8 "probably interested" and 13 "maybe's", ( a total of 36 ) .

So either some of those people haven't been online since I posted this poll, or have lost interest, ... or would prefer Xmas!

The "where to go" poll has 23 votes. So there seem to be a few people who don't know when would suit them, or don't mind, or haven't connected the two threads.

But it does look as if people are interested. I wonder whether some of the people who voted on Greentea's poll would prefer a larger meet-up, as I would if I had to travel far. At least we have lots of time to plan something like that ( 50-100 people ? ! ) for next year. :D

Please let us know, ( by voting in the poll ), when you would be most able to go somewhere in Europe for a meet. If you want to go to one at all that is.

If you think that you would probably be able to attend something close by anytime, and therefore don't know how to vote, choose the month that you are most likely to be able to manage something, ( time, budget, babysittting, etc ) anywhere in Europe.

Thank you very much. :)

Just realised I should have included an "anytime" option, ( and perhaps also "next year" and "never", options! ).

Damn. :x :( :?

 Ok, people who haven't voted because they would go anytime, please post something to that effect in the thread so that we know.

Please keep voting anyway; it will give us the best idea of how to structure our more precise and final poll. Thanks. :)

Would I be right in saying that the months we should be looking at are June, July, August, and September?

:!: If most people would be happy with some date within that time period, then I suggest that we hold a new poll for a London meet, ( by far the most popular choice on the "where to go" poll ), to choose an approximate date, because there may be quite a few of us, and to find "cheap"ish accommodation it would be useful to have a clearer picture of numbers and date preferences and/or restrictions.

Hopefully the poll will not have a huge gaping hole in it; anyone who wants to discuss how to structure it please post on Greentea's general "Europe Meet-up" thread.

The central S. France meeting, intended to satisfy WP'ers with the urge to travel somewhere beautiful and different/foreign for a WP gathering, will probably be in late May/June, because as soon as you hit July the french holiday-feeding-frenzy starts, and that, combined with the heat, is not much fun. So we may need another thread to discuss budget and travel preferences/restrictions for that meet-up too.

It would probably be August. :)

I'm in the States and had I voted [which I did not] it would have been for October.

I am sorry you missed the boat for the preliminary vote, but we need to move fairly fast if it looks as if the numbers are likely to make it worth booking a venue, ( rather than "simply" finding rooms in a small hotel/B&B, and even then we'd need to pre-book very soon ), and so I went with what looked from the poll like the most popular months, and that had been mentioned in Greentea's original thread about a meet too.

However if this year's London and S. France meets are a success we plan on organising another, much bigger one, next year, and you would have more time to get involved/express preferences etc.

I would love to meet you so I hope you can make it, either this year or next. :)
