So... panic attack is the physiological symptoms, and meltdown is when everyone sees you acting like a crazy person?

Sadly, yes. But you don't have to have witnesses. I can have a meltdown if I wake up and discover we're out of milk for my coffee. I will cry, kick things, and generally spin around until I finally just go to the store (or Starbucks). If we don't have coffee - thats ok. I can just have black tea and milk. But God forbid we're out of whole or half and half. I'll take 2% if I have to. I take inventory EVERY night.

If I'm staying in a hotel with really crappy coffee and fake creamer, I won't be able to handle it. I'll feel like I have flu all day. And my skin will itch.

I don't know...maybe that's normal.

I think the older you get the more your meltdowns turn into shutdowns. At least in public. I can still meltdown in front of my family or alone pretty easily.

thank you everyone for clarifying "meltdowns"...I wa convinced I didn't have them, although would admit I lose it over *trivia* or have what others call tantrums.

I know I have shutdowns...had quite a bad one a not long ago which seemed never ending, and am worrying am on the verge of one now (I have to do a joint presentation, with some people who have done no work despite being aware of the deadline for 2 months, and are now texting me harrasing over this- I have done ALL the work but can't be bothered to tell them-I don't want to talk to them ever)

I think coming down from losing it is the worst...either I have said/done something that leaves others horrified and white lipped, or I beat myself up over upsetting others. I rarely get pushed over the edge by my son...I go out for a cigarette instead -I'm on 20 a day

I've been thinking about taking up smoking again. It would be so awesome right now.

But in the end it just isn't worth it...

I've been thinking about it for about two years. So far, I've resisted.

Yet - one teeny little puff wouldn't necessarily lead to a renewed habit. If they ever made a cancer and emphysema-free ciggie - I'd be all over it. It really is a wonderfully satisfying compulsion/"edge off".

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking!! !"

I won't touch it, my lungs are already worse than most smokers, although they are slowly getting better, or at least that is what I have noticed.

MmeLePen....DONT!If you are lucky enough to quit.-dont go back!! :)
I've done patches, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, chewing gum, poverty and bloody mindedness....and nothing except pregnancy has managed to make me give up smoking. Which is not exactly a practical option.

It's school half term and I have the nightmare of working in a team going on so i'll probably be on 40 a day, and eating coffee granules /mainlining espresso and paracetamol this week....

Awwww!! ! You guys are better than my "real" friends and family. :sunny:

I'll admit it. Smoking is my "go to" vice. I remember last summer sitting in our backyard, after a Braves (baseball) game SOOO pissed off at my husband. We had had a lovely time at the game, but he got all weird on the way home. He was going through some tough times at work and taking it out on me. I can't stand emotional roller-coasters.

I sat outside, during a full moon, warm evening, having a total meltdown. I tossed it up between buying a pack of Marlboro Lights 100 Hard pack and doing other self-destructive stuff. In retrospect, I should have gone with the ciggies.

Hey - if common sense meant anything to me, I wouldn't be here.
