Welcome to WrongPlanet, ThisisJoel!

As for me, it depends on the situation.
A favorite video sometimes (old school Battlestar Galactica),
sometimes a power nap for an hour, sometimes even
replying to forum questions over the Web can help me
regain my concentration.

Here's what I think and that I do that works:

You've got to immerse yourself in your special interest

OR

just zone out and close your eyes and stare at the wall.

You need to lower your level of stimulation. There might be too much going on in your life for an aspie to handle well and if you can cut back, you need to.

This is from a 40 year old aspie who worked 40 hr weeks but couldn't handle them for long off and on through life and eventually realized I'm better off working PT and on SSDI..

for the sake of my nervous system.

Maybe there's a few ways you could get off to yourself during the day to just be alone?

Benjaminbreeq if you listen to technomusic it might energize you if you do something like aerobics to it for a few minutes, that is if you like techno. Dance music works too. I like Technotronic.
In fact, not only do I feel energized mentally and physically when I listen to Technotronic, it puts me in an awesome mood.

I agree with exercise and a venture outdoors.
That and long baths. :)

Gardening works for me, but I think it's because it's a way of getting outside and having some quiet time on my own without offending the family by seeming to shut them out. They know the garden needs sorting out and that I don't mind doing it, and so they're happy to let me!

Sometimes too I find I feel really refreshed if I read a novel, not necessarily something that relates to my special interests or anything, just something with a fast-paced straightforward story. I think it's probably a way of shutting down really, by transferring all my attention to following the story.

Go to a warm, sunny place and do something relaxing like play golf?
You'll feel better after that, yeah?

The best spot I've found so far is a few miles due north of Mount Wilson. It's a lushly verdant canyon above Sepulveda Falls. Fresh water, no cellular coverage, clean air, no TV or radio reception, and no place to plug in a video game, blow dryer, or boom-box!

sounds like the valley where i live. i live in a rural area and am surrounded by world heritage listed national parks. i go out to waterholes and go bush frequently - with my dog Peg - and i unwind. i would prefer to live out in the bush but my son is still too young and needs to be around other kids and not forced into my preferred way of living!

Montana tends to be a place where, quite often, human effects on the environment are less apparent. Frankly put, the forest is your backyard here, so basically, I like to go on walks and talk to myself about my anger. I feel better, for a few minutes, after I get home.

And I like to look at Wikipedia and WP.

Techno is not for everyone. Lots of people don't really like it. What do you like to listen to? Whatever it is I'm sure it would energize you unless it was music that makes everyone tired.

Maybe I should really cut my computer time down as well, but I get bored. Life's so short though... Bleh

You need a vigorous exercise regime. An hour a day walking or on the tread-mill should recharge you batteries.

What I usually do is avoid what made me 'burn out' in the first place. It's what I did after all the Daytona hype/coverage; I sat out the next race (Which was at California anyway)

I can't believe no one has said this yet...
Go for a walk/jog in the forest with your favourite tunes and take a break to smoke a joint and breathe in the peace of nature. Bring your dog if you have one. If not, getting one helps too.
Take a nice bath when you get home and then you'll sleep like a baby.

I'm always on the go, playing sport or going to the gym. I was running around town today as I was in such a rush lol. I am more resiliant pyhsically though.
