What is wrong with childrens fashion designers???
I just don't think they should dress like jailbait. Heck I don't think a g-string is appropriate on teens. There is a difference between being attractive and attracting horny sex addicts who are looking for an easy knock up.
Well, I once flew next to a woman that worked for "the limited". Every now and then, I try to break out of my shell, and start a conversation. This was one of those times. She said things about little girls that, when they USED to be said, would elicit the famous "Well, boys will be boys!"! Yep, they made these girls sound like male hoodlums. So what was she talking about? About the THEFT of a popular item from one of "the limited"'s higher end stores. Maybe you have heard of it? Victoria's secret? The item? rather sultry bras.
OH YEAH, "the limited" has ANOTHER brand targeted towards younger girls. It is called "limited too". Surprisingly, when I looked at limited too, their items seemed kind of sedate. But one wonders how long it will stay that way. Still, my point is that a lot of girls end up wanting to emulate the mother, or models, and others want to emulate them. Price won't limit it.
I LIKE some stuff, though frankly I don't like the raunchy stuff. Still, some of the stuff is asking for trouble.

Well, if enough enraged parents refused to buy from stores like that, it would hit these designers where it hurts. Like the article said, the woman went marching up to a mere clerk to vent her outrage. That clerk is just employed there. She has no say over what the buyer for that store decides to stock. The trouble is, that if enough parents are really outraged over this situation, they should organize and boycott. Just my opinion.

Jail bait is in... haven't you seen those "epic" banners? Play counter strike sometime... But really, you think the older men are screwing them when its actually their classmates.

Whats wrong with them is they are all men... They make things to appeal to their sex drive. And I am willing to bet that the ones who do children's fashions are actually pedophiles who abstain from pedophilac behaviour. And look, you never see men's clothing anywhere near as revealing as women's, the simple reason for that is most fashion designers are men, they don't want to see a man's butt in public,
I agree with your general idea that there must be something wrong in the world when we encourage children to dress this way. But isn't it the case that there are actually plenty of female fashion designers? And that most male fashion designers are gay? I've heard the whole drive behind the super-thin waif look in female models is male fashion designers wanting women to look like young boys.
Whether it's fashion, food or trashy brainbox-polluting entertainment, all people who exploit children should have an especially abominable area of hell reserved for their eternal souls

Circular logic is correct because it is.
Very little is sacred anymore. I've seen kids dressed in outfits where my first thought was "what the crap were you thinking?" Be the parent and dress the child like a child
Have you seen the Learning Channel program about baby beauty queens? These parents and some that can't afford it spend bouqou bucks on dressy their child like a 20 year old model. This one woman had a partial plate made by their dentist to cover the hole in her daughter's mouth left by her loosing her baby teeth.
As for the designers they know what shocks, gets attention and what sales. Almost any teen loves to buy clothes to feel good and that means to look sexy and adult. And teens love clothes that gives some parents a heart attack. I've known kids who change clothes once they get to school, because their parents are trying to keep a tighter rein on their child's behavior.
It is quite sad indeed. Most of this whole business is about MONEY pure and simple. And the child is the one that mostly pays for it in the end. And society at times as well.
Yes, and apart from the prostisute on the street corner, very adults dress the way these teens are dressing. Heck, my step mom wants to dress up to look sexy she doesn't even go to dress like prostitute, and that is what I have seen many students at my highschool dress like (and more of them were grade 9s than any other grade)... Thankfully I am at university and don't have to see grade 9s who dress like prostitutes every day. Where does society drew the line? And on a side note, if I had a little more confidence socially, I would have gone to completely embarress that one grade 9 that dressed the worst and jokingly ask how much she charged for a night, and when she would be confused I would say, I'm sorry, I thought based on what you are wearing that you were a prostitute, just to see if she would dress more modestly the next day. Confidence should not come from having guys look at you like they want to get in bed with you.
And I am sorry that that was a little m-rated, but now to the burning question:
Are girls on the spectrum less likely to fall into the trap of dressing like that? And are there any girls on the spectrum that actually want to dress like that? Are those of us who are on the spectrum more self conscious about how we come across to all people, including in how we dress?

People with AS are supposed to be fond of dressing for comfort and/or practicality. So that kind of goes hand-in-hand with dressing at least somewhat modestly. Well, for me anyway. I can't say any of the revealing and tight fitting clothes I've seen look very comfy or utilitarian.

Here's my situation: I'm short, quite thin, and because of that, I'm stuck in the children's department. It's actually hard to find clothes these days that aren't too young for me, since I'm twenty. They've made all the clothes in all of the departments bigger, so it's also very hard to find something in juniors small enough for me. I'm only 5'3" and 86 lbs. max so if you were me, you try finding something good in that department. Whenever I do find something in the childrens' department that's age-appropriate, I immediately grab it. I don't want to have to dress like I'm eight years old. Think about that.
I do think about that, and my thoughts are that it is sad that we are becoming a more and more plus sized society... We shouldn't be becoming 300/400+ lbs, there is no need of it, but yet people are, and those people need clothes, and as more people become bigger, so do the clothing options... I am working on losing some weight myself, but I am definitly not plus sized by definition, I am probably only 20-30 lbs overweight at 200lbs (i have a whack of muscle compared to most people, and I want to lose the fat so it can show)... I also hate being heavy enough that I contribute to the largerning of sizes at stores. Worst part of wanting to lose the fat for me is that I have lung damage so I have to limit my physical activity to something that won't bother my lungs too much... Once I get a little better, it will be time to harcore hit the gym, tone my muscles, and lose some of that fat. I want to look like I did when I played football again. I was 180 lbs of rage hitting you like a truck on the field, and if I could get back into it I would jump on the opportunity in a moments notice.
I know exactly where you're coming from. I'm actually trying really hard to gain weight myself (I want to hit 95 lbs.), but no matter how much I eat, I somehow end up losing weight. The other week, I had gotten down to 84 lbs., which scared me because I looked so thin. Even if I eat three big meals, I'll somehow end up losing a pound just from sitting around all day afterwards. It sucks because when it comes to jeans and stuff, I like them being tight-fitting as most girls my age do, and they're almost always loose on my thighs because I don't have the fat to make them tighter. In jeans, I am a 16 slim in kids, but even then, I have to wear a belt. If I get a 14, my legs are too long, so I end up flooding, which isn't good. It really would be nice if at least some designers made clothes small enough for me. I've had actually pretty good luck at Nordstrom and Sak's Fifth Avenue, but some of their clothes can get really expensive.

Try doing some light weight lifting, you may actually be able to gain a little muscle mass easier than fat. Also, eating fatty foods doesn't help weight gain, eating foods rich in carbohydrates helps with fat gain, and protien for muscle mass. So a lot of breads, dairies are good too, and meats (if you are going to try for a bit of muscle mass).
Maybe some exercise would be good for me. I'll see if my mom has anything I can use. As for food, I've been living off of meat lately. Almost everything I've eaten when it comes to meals has been chicken or steak. I've also eaten a lot of spaghetti and meatballs latley. My mom's decided to start cooking more since we were living off of just fast food for forever.

I've also noticed how provocative little girl's clothing has gotten in recent yrs. I have a 10 yo daughter, and I'm floored by some of the things I've seen while shopping for her. Last time we were in a dept store there was a display of girl's underwear that were too skimpy, and had shocking sayings on them, like "Hottie". I pointed them out to my husband, and he was not only shocked, but totally disgusted. He started getting kinda loud about his opinion. lol Made me wish that I hadn't said anything, because people were staring, because of his tangent. Seriously, why, oh why is there sayings like that on little girl's undergarments? Who is going to see them?
On the other hand, I'm kind of like Lightning88. I wear a size 3 in juniors, and it's hard to find clothes that are modest, and age appropriate for me. I'm too old for sparkely stuff of my pants, and I'm not a Hannah Montana fan!

Lightning88, I have the same problem with finding clothes to fit. Only I'm tall, so the issue's compounded. Kids stuff would be way to short on me.
I'm trying to learn to use a sewing machine so I can alter clothes.

Yay! I'm not alone!
Come to think of it, I don't dress very G-rated. lol I think I broke the school dress code every day in twelfth grade. But it was too strict anyway. My mom has no problems with what I wear, so there's never been a battle about that here.
