I came up with an idea for a story once about a psychic who can accurately predict the winners of horse races and travels the country making a living doing this.

I'm confused about this subject.. and it's very weird, I'm not making it up.. but..

When my aunt died, she was buried on her birthday. My mother called and she said, "The same thing is going to happen to me, I know it!"

I told her we might be able to project our thoughts out there and anxiety might make it come true. I didn't know. I was listening to a new age guru at the time.

Well, she did die at 64, just like her sister, and she WAS buried on her 65th birthday.

Well, I knew when my mother was going to die. I had a flash of terror and images of death ran through my mind and I thought about my mother just as the phone rang to tell me my mom was in the hospital with leukemia and was supposed to be out "in three weeks." I knew she wouldn't be. I just knew. Deep down.

So, was my mom psychic or did her anxiety contribute to her health outcome? Was it just a coincidence since someone told me that statistically, people die around the time of their birthdays? Why was I right and why was she right? I just don't know.

If you look in my thread "what are your predictions for 2009" or even the older 2008 version you can see that I am pretty accurate in my predictions. I even predicted my mom's back was going to get infected. It did exactly as I predicted many weeks before the surgery. I predicted how low the stock market will go, I predicted 9/11, the tsunami, plane crashes, and other things sometimes with all the details. When I wrote the predictions for 2009 thread, the Dow was in the 8,000 range. I said it will hit 6,000 and now its in the 6,000 range. I predicted the exact unemployment numbers last year. Its like I'm an economist. I told my dad that (he works at Intel) last year the stock will be 15 or below and this is when it was in the 20's. He responded, "no way, it will never get that low!" I told him to pull out of the stock market and he didn't listen. Now Intel stock is at 12. I also predicted the impossible like saying the casualties in Afghanistan were going to be higher than the ones in Iraq even though we have far more troops in Iraq and that has happened as well. I wrote that one in November 2008. So, yes, it is possible to tell the future because I have "psychic dreams" that shows me all of this.

Then you can be very rich within a short period of time.

Write these predictions down, then send them via Certified Post to James Randi at the address on www.randi.org

There's $1,000,000 US in it for you if your prediction validity average is within stasticly unexplainable levels.

I can't control my psychic ability. I can't predict at will, they come to me in the form of dreams. Sometimes when I have the dream its hard to realize that its a psychic dream, I never could tell until it actually happens. I have a thread on this very board under "random discussion" and you will see my predictions that I wrote in November 2008 for this year.

Doesn't matter whether it's "controlable" or not, just whether or not it is "correct" often enough to be an actual example of paranormal ability.

Have a dream, write it down. Get it Notarized, mail it to James Randi.

If it is, in fact, a paranormal occurance then you will get a Million Dollars.

What is there to lose?

Yes and no.

I have a scientific mind. How could anyone possible foretell the future?

While past trends are no guaranty of future events, by analyzing the inter-relation of past events, it may be possible to anticipate the future outcome of similar events in the present.

Of course, methods like this do not rely on (fictional) divine, mystical, or psychic abilities.

Psychics close their doors if they see me coming in time. Other wise they turn away from me and make excuses that they are going on break. Can they sense my AS will mess them up? Or is my future that bad?

All human beings are capable (with practice) of seeing 3 seconds into the future. This has been scientifically observed with poker players.

His wording are so vague that everything can be interpreted into his word. A true prediction would a thing like: "An election for the House of Commons in the UK will happen 06 March 2025 with the following results: Labour abc Seats and xx %, Tories cba Seats and yy % etc. ...".

One time when I was a kid, I was watching a fire juggler from the front row and my head told me to move. So I got out of my seat and walked to the side of the stage. Sure enough, ten seconds later, the juggler dropped his torch and it went flying into the chair I'd been sitting in.

I tend to have small premonitions like that from time to time throughout my life. They're always vague, but they keep me out of trouble. I've even had a couple instances where I randomly stopped at a green light, moments before somebody ran the red. So I believe it is possible to feel future events, even if we don't understand the science behind it yet.

I am sure it's possible in the mystic/psychic kind of way.

That's why I think the movie Premonition is so fascinating because the woman knew what was going to happen and did everything in her power to alter it but couldn't. It's a good look at fate and how it can't be altered no matter what one does. I wonder if that's what reading the future means...even if you can predict it and know it accurately, the outcome will be the same no matter what anyone does to change it. Interesting question to consider...Is there really such a thing as free will?

I don't believe in time, so of course it's possible to know the alleged 'future'.

*personal philosophy insert* The future is not final. The future can be guessed, calculated, and predicted. But it is the course of choices and decisions that truly decide how the future will fold out, whether according to prediction, or not. In essence no, you can not tell the future. You can only guess either with the facts before you or something completely unknown, and see how it pans out. In most cases the only reason premonitions come true is because people believe in them. Most of the time predictions are based upon facts and reasoning.

But in the end you decide your own future with choices you make in the present. And that no future is set in stone.

Something strange has happened to me a few times one time i got a warning dream that someone was going to strangle me and that i should bite his arm to save myself.
Three days after the dream i saw a man at a bar he was bald and big looking and i just stared at him trying to work out if he was the man from the dream. The dream also took place in a bar and i realised i was also standing the same place and so was he. He swore at me and told me to buy him a drink i said no. He then grabbed me with his arm around my neck and people where trying to get him off me but couldn't. I thought bite his arm and did so, he kept a grip for a while even while screaming and then let go and i got away fast.

Frankly, yes.

But there are a lot of caveats.

First, I can "see the future" but I credit 90%+ of my "ability" to paying attention to alternative news sources (I have zero trust of mainstream press) which let me know about things that are going on that most people (NT or otherwise) do not want to hear about.

9/11? I knew it was going to happen...I just didn't know it would happen on that day. It was inevitable according to national security experts the US government paid good money to consult them on such a threat. No goat entrails needed...I just chose to pay attention and actually listen to the experts.

Market crash? I knew it was coming for the last 5 years. I was surprised it took until 2008 for the poop to start hitting the fan. Again, got all the information from experts who the mainstream press ignored because it would encourage people to get out of the market while the getting was good.

I do believe there is a supernatural "gift" of prophecy. I do believe that "God" can tell someone something about an upcoming event....of something hidden (in another's life that they could not possibly know about)....of something in the past that nobody else sees. Such events, however, are rare, and I won't dabble any more about that.
