I found it strange when i went to see a school play my son was saying a few lines in. All the children in his class had a turn to stand up and say what they wanted to be in the future.
They stood and said things like famous singer and football players ect. I could hear lots of parents saying awww and making all kinds of laughs and things for every child except for my son. When he stood up and said in a very formal voice he wanted to be a famous inventer and invent a flying car everyone was quiet with exception to the slight mumbles and coughs.

Ugh. That's so sad. I hate the anti-intellectual attitude of mainstream society. The majority of people who live in this society deserve to go back and live in the stone age.

That's so not true! They won't give any "loving" Aspie the time of day, let alone accept abuse from them and remain with them.

Gina, that's the story of my life, making that kind of comments where you give responsibility where responsibility is due, and everyone else treats you like you're the pervert. Nowadays I know better than say that the king is nude and point at the pink pig everyone's pretending is not there.[/quote]

Exactly. The main reason it confused me so much is because when the topic had come up at my old school and other places, that had not only been my reaction, but everyone else's too! We think we can sing along, then they change the words...

I always hated it when people said "aww" at stuff I say, it means they ain't taking me seriously cos of my age. Back in Year 7 the older students all thought we were cute cos we were the youngest in the school, so when they were going, "Aww, they're so sweet!" I went up to them and I was like, "What've you got to say to me, bruv?" getting all up in their face, cos it was funny, LOL.

I actually felt the same way. I pretty much knew the adults weren't taking me seriously, almost like a subhuman. But in time, I came to understand that, in some twisted and strange way, adults saying "awww" is supposed to be a good thing. But I still didn't the reaction, and generally avoided doing or saying anything to provoke it.

Could always be worse. You could have been precocious and said, "I wanna be a porn star."

That would have gotten a reaction. 8O

I'm still frustrated today about people's reactions from something I did last week.
I was doing a presentation last week about a game I made up and when I showed the profits(no one else showed the profits) no one comprehended how much money I'd be making and were just a bit, 'meh...'
My family wouldn't even take me seriously. I would have be earning 6 digit figures every day and easily 7 digit figures every month...
Why has no one else done this game? Because the resources are insane- I would have programmed it by now if I had the money and the time.
EMZ.

You've defined Asperger's in 1 sentence. Being an Aspie is not being able to intuitively adapt to the mentality prevailing in one specific setting.

And wow, I hadn't noticed you're only 13!! ! How wise!

Several things that have allways bothered me about NT reactions to me is their overly emotional and non-rational responses to things I'm being serious about. NTs also accuse me of being over anylitical. I say they are being under anylitical! When they respond back to me many of them use a lot of figures of speech and metophors that when taken literally, make no sense and are extreemly stupid!! ! I think this is extreemly idiotic!! I call this the language of "Metophoric moronise"..... It is both confusing and is also is a source of material for the humor I like to write and joke about....make fun of!!

That's the PERFECT way to describe what AS is. It's the most objective, profound, and concise description of AS I've come across.

I don't plan on quitting with the research/writing/models/equations/etc anytime soon... if anything I plan on doing it more. I keep realizing that my friends weren't really friends at all... well, most of them at least. I plan on leaving them behind, as I never got anything good from them. Since I stopped dealing with them and trying to be social I have stopped drinking/smoking/abusing opiates, and my conclusion is that this makes me happier than they ever did.

I'm definitely done with all of that pathetic nonsense,

Not jumping to conclusions or obsessing over what it might be is something I learned the hard way. I'm glad it worked out for you though.

Thank you. 8)

I still remember all of the confused looks I got in kindergarten when I said I wanted to be an Astronautical Engineer.

(Explanations for this if possible, please):

Once we watched a video about domestic abuse at school, and at the end I said exactly what my reaction always is to these kinds of scenarios: "Why would anyone stay with a guy who hits them?" The NTs around me acted like I'd said something awful. The correct answer, it would appear, was, "How could anyone do that to someone they love?" (which IMO is a stupid statement, cos they obviously don't love them if they are abusing them, do they?). I am baffled as to why I got the negative reaction, when the boy next to me had said, "That video was rubbish, there wasn't enough blood!"

This is what I would ask Gina.

I am glad I found other aspies like myself. Finally, in my entire life I have a group of people I can be my natural self around. I do not have to be someone I am not, around here.

People think I am "absolutely fabulous" right up to the moment when my brain switches to full power (as it is apt to do of it's own accord from time to time - frankly, it isn't even reliable enough to be useful) after THAT I have the distinct impression that they just want to lynch me, or burn me at the stake...

The fact that so many NTs think their experiences are universal. If something worked well for them - it has to work for everybody else. I often get the most stupid (unrequested) advice and people expect you to be grateful for it  and will see you as lazy or arrogant for not appreciating these pearls of wisdom.
