The neighbors just to the east of my house I know well---but we probably talk a couple times a month. The neighbors behind me I hardly know. The neighbor to my west I know, but probably speak once a year. And the neighbor across the road from me I wave to, but that's about it.

What I do is wave politely when one waves to me but I don't go out of my way to bother them. I am polite and hope they give me the same politeness in return.

only counting after living on my own:

1st place: only turks. turks are cool tho. no specific reason, coincidence, but turks and turks only. one time i had locked myself out, and they let me stay in their flat, while they were outside. nice turks.

2nd place: a couple of amphetamine junkies, one adhd-out-of-control + my brother, and some other lowlifes. a bit too exciting :D

here: a (SLIGHTLY disturbed) nice northerner. no problems. small talk sessions are awkward and odd :]

My neighbours are OK. They're friendly but not intrusive, apart from one who seemed to think my house was her second home, lol, but she's not been bothersome lately.
We used to live next door to some very noisy people who had music blasting at all hours, so I appreciate quiet neighbours :)

shirley next door just got a white cat. i told her today she needs to let it sleep next to her face.

the other side?
they live a really weird kind of existence.
they get up and then they go out to work.
it's very odd. i am not sure where they go but it seems suspicious to me - leaving at 8.30 am and returning at about 5.

Neighbors? I have neighbors?

Oh yeah, I guess I do have neighbors. Imagine that. All those houses here have people living in them.

The only neighbors I know in any sense are the ones to the right. I occasionally chat with them. The ones to the left ... at least, I know their names, and say hello to them and stuff. I really cannot recognize or name any of the other neighbors. (I have many neighbors since I live in a townhouse.) My mother talks about this person or that person - not that she is friends with them or anything, just, she knows their names at least - and I have no idea who she is talking about.

I think this is what "normal" people do, generally. If you work a typical office job you will do this five days a week (if you live near where you work, otherwise you will leave earlier and return later). This is the life of, I don't know, someone who sells insurance or something.
