I DID forget to mention that star trek is ALSO about a society DEVOID of the concept of money. Of course, there IS that idiot on STTNG that doesn't understand warp engines AT ALL and claims to know EVERYTHING about them and it is his "assistant" that actually does the work, in SPITE of him. There is the OTHER IDIOT that tries a PARADOX on DATA to get data to submit to his garbage on the pretense that he MIGHT be able to maybe make MANY copies of data, even if he risks a treasured asset in the bargain. And I believe that is AFTER they find out about LORE.(An example of how dangerous an improper copy of data could be.) I say paradox because they ORDER him to submit to a trial because he refuses, etc... So they treat him as a person. If he lacked the attributes that they tried to prove he lacked then he wouldn't be there and wouldn't be worth copying. So they clearly didn't understand basic logic. You would think that, in a world lacking personal wealth, you would have only your reputation, comfort, and accomplishments. That would mean NO THEFT OR DECEIT, yet those three examples(one stealing from a "subordinate", one threatening to destroy a treasured asset and recognized lifeform, and one trying to facilitate that destruction) fly in the face of that.

Like I said, they tried things similar, and did have very similar end goals. As I understand it, they HAVE had moderate success with a PACEMAKER, for the brain.

The very fact that the brain operates as it does tells you that really won't happen. It isn't like NEW computers with memory that contains certain values representing a program. THAT would be CONSISTANT! One Pentium is even like a 6502(About as similar to a pentium as a cat is to a horse!) in that respect!! !! !! NOPE! It is like the OLD computers with patch cords all over the place that reallocate connections. Even two IDENTICAL twins with the SAME environment SAME nutrition, SAME experiences, etc... are likely to be DIFFERENT!
BTW one failure, like you indicated, or even a THOUSAND, doesn't mean it isn't possible, but it DOES say it is difficult, risky, and could take a while. And cut just ONE incorrect axon, or even merely saturate it, desensitize, or move it, and that person may no longer be a good subject. And you can't really experiment on animals and hope the first human will be a success. And operating on 10 humans doesn't mean that the next one will be that much better. That is just one reason I hate that this is getting so much attention. In theory, building muscle is SIMPLE! Just cause some minor damage, and load the person up with steroids and protein. Yet has ANYONE really tried it? Losing weight is easy. Open the person up, remove most of the fat, and vacume out the rest. They at least tried THAT to some degree, and it is STILL never ALWAYS perfect. Still, people work hard to do things the old fashioned way. As hard as it is, it is generally safer. Maybe they should likewise try SIMPLER and SAFER things than trying to change the brain.

Both the reporter who wrote this story and the kids being interviewed are idiots, clueless about autism and science as well. It's a pointless piece of fluff disguised as journalism. I can't believe anybody would take it, or the endless wandering Star Trek babble that should have been posted to a thread of it's own, seriously.
