My mum and I were watching Rachael Ray at her house, yesterday afternoon. Rachel was showing footage of a new TV show where the nurses served 6 patty burgers to their obese patients. Everybody who walked into the restaurant had to be weighed. If a customer tipped the scales at 350 lbs, they got a free burger. There was a debate between two women. One was all for it, and the other one was against it. The woman who was against it, reminded me of that Autism Speaks refrigerator mother, who almost drove herself and her autistic daughter off a bridge. My mum said, "You were rolling your eyes at that woman, weren't you?" I started to giggle. Than I've preceded to tell my mum what I thought she wanted to hear. That they should give the burgers to homeless people, and free ones to the ones who weigh less than 100 lbs. If my mum knew the truth, she would have called a taxi to drive me home.

I laugh at people who hurt themselves. It's horrible and I don't want to do it. It's not that I think it's funny, I just can't help myself. I think it's a kind of stim like flapping and rocking when stressed but it is truly awful and I wish I didn't do it.

This is totally true of me too!! I think it's definitely a reaction to being in a stressful situation rather than a lack of empathy, but it's got me into a few tricky situations before.

Occasionally, yes. But in general, my sense of humor just seems to be completely different from that of most other people I meet. Things which make them laugh a lot seldom even raise a smile from me, while things which they don't find particularly funny have had me having to leave the room, I was laughing so hard. I have quite a juvenile sense of humor, I think.

I also tend to suddenly remember funny things hours/days/weeks later and start giggling about them. It's quite difficult if I happen to be walking down the street, or sitting on a bus on my own at the time. People must see me suddenly grin and try to stop laughing at (apparently) nothing and think I'm hearing voices.

I laugh a lot randomly when I'm nervous. However, it helps to suppress your emotions - it's not tempting to do that anymore. But again, in a public setting, it is difficult to be completely emotionless. I tend to laugh when other people laugh, because laughing is contagious, but I know that it looks to others like I'm laughing for no reason. Somehow, things become funny to me when other people are laughing.

Does anyone else have the urge to giggle or laugh uncontrollably when talking about or hearing something really difficult? The other day I was telling a friend about an acquaintance whose close friend was found dead at her home just two days after she'd last seen her. I don't find the situation at all funny, but I got the urge to start laughing uncontrollably while relating it, maybe as a defence. It's not the first time I've done this. Not so long ago I was reading out a story from a paper where it describes a murderer who dismembered a body and took the body parts to various different areas. I was telling a friend about this particular story and could hardly stop myself breaking into a grin. If I was reading something like this alone I would feel really upset.

yep. i smiled when my grandpa on my dads side died, when i was little. i noticed and i couldnt help it.

just recently my brother told me about some friend of his OD'ing and dying, and i smiled and giggled as well, luckily they werent very close, and he smiled along. better to smile tho, than to be all deep and serious. ew :]

I hate to say this, but laughing uncontrollably when you hear about something completely horrible is a sign of emotional insecurity.

It's something I learned in psychology class.

Anyway, I do it too...I remember a time that I did it that was so humiliating to myself that it led me to quit boy scouts.

what kind of psychology class?
it sounds VERY blunt to me.

whats "emotional insecurity"?

if i am emotionally insecure, what does it do to me, other than make me laugh at death?

of course, laughing at something horrible, is a sign of something being off, but i think the reasons are various and more individual than emotional insecurity, which i cannot even fully understand. (insecure about what exactly? wether to be angry, happy? too angry? not angry enough?)

wierdest one was when I got attacked by 3 strangers in the street, they were all beating me up and for some reason it felt like the funniest thing in the world. I'n the end they must have beenn trying to beat me up even harder to wipe the smirk off my face :(. really strange bit is half the time I don't even find comedy amusing yet found that hillarious.

that happened to me too. ive almost forgotten. these were troubled kids from my neighborhood, and usually they would respect me. i was a "fellow loser" altho not mean or bad, like they were, they still saw me as one of them, a kid from the "poor street" :D

but they totally randomly jumped me one day, we were maybe 15-16 at the time, and beat me up, for absolutely no reason, and i just kept laughing, as i was being bruised up. my mother freaked, and reported it to the police, and later the two kids apologized. it was all very weird

Today on the way back from school I couldn't stop laughing because I was remembering when a boy in my science class had been doing an impression of Herbert The Pervert from Family Guy, LOL.
