I do this & people always say to me..."I heard you!!"...but they didn't say that they heard me, it's not my fault that I'm not psychic.

When I do it verbally I know that part of the reason is because I want the other person to confirm that they'd heard me. From what my husband has told me, there's a nonverbal cue that people give out that acknowledges that they had heard what the other person said. I don't see that nonverbal cue, so that's why I need it verbally acknowledged, and I'll keep repeating over, and over until I get that verbal cue.

There´s a nonverbal cue for that? How interesting! Did your husband tell you what that nonverbal cue was? I´m curious to know it.

As for myself, another reason I tend to repeat things in conversation is I am always worrying people aren´t going to understand what I´m trying to say. It happens often that people don´t listen well, or just don´t get what I´m saying. So if I think it´s important, I´ll say it over and over again, just to make sure they really get it!

I've always thought of it as just reinforcing my point, but maybe it's perseveration (sp?)... if the other person doesn't acknowledge my point, but instead just starts in with their own differing view, I'll often repeat my side... and I can do it more than once, until we're both quite hot under the collar.

If the other person says Yes, but I disagree (etc), then nooo problem.

Although I'm not sure it's true perseveration, but may be just pure pig-headedness (nothing against pigs intended

He said the that people will do a sort of nod, but I usually don't see it. It must be very slight, and quick.

Yeah. Sometimes I repeat things just to be sure I was heard, and sometimes I repeat things unintentionally, most likely if I forgot I've said it before in the first place.

Sometimes I do it to help me cope with overstimulation, and sometimes I ask people questions again and again just to make sure I understood them correctly, even if it's something that's easy to understand.

Huh...I´ll try to look out for that, then.
