[quote="Learning2Survive"]Is the doctor prescribing you the Magnesium? are your blood levels being checked? You know it can mess up your electrolytes, right?[/quot

ACTUALLY, if you take too much magnesium, you will end up going to the bathroom a lot. Such a feature is used by DDOCTORS, etc... as a laxative! MOST people are DEFICIENT in magnesium. And I mean NTs AS WELL as AS!

I can't afford a doctor.
How does it mess up your elecrolytes? Does it deplete them?

I am taking a potassium magnesium supplement I bout from the health food store.

But I will try to set it on fire.

Don't listen to the stuff about electrolytes. Most people are DEFICIENT, and your body won't let you take TOO much. If you can tolerate 100% then you probably WERE deficient. A deficiency of magnesium leads to MENTAL problems, muscle problems, immunity problems, and osteo arthritus. An overdose of magnesium can give you the runs. Does THAT spell it out better?

I am magnesium deficient so I get it prescribed all the time (with B6) and it helps a lot with anxiety, stress and headaches.

I was wrong. You can take magnesium pills as long as you keep the dose at Adult females: 310 - 320 milligrams of magnesium per day. Excess magnesium gets washed out of your body with urine, so you will have to take a lot more than 300-400 meilligrams per day to give yourself magnesium toxicity, however, if you do take five to ten time the recommended daily amount, over several weeks or months, you can give yourself organ damage.

Coincidentally, I was reading about this earlier in a book about nutrients that help with stress relief. Apparently magnesium is good for this, as well as for bringing down blood pressure.

The electrolyte issue is that it makes you excrete more sodium. That could lead to a sodium/potassium imbalance, but practically, I think most people's worry on an average diet is about having too much sodium in their systems. Ask your physician if you're worried though.

All together, the most I probably ever took in a day was about 300%(full RDA), about 1.2GM! Try taking that before you go on a plane, YIKES! It is just uncomfortable, not deadly, etc... It took me a while to find out what was happening. I didn't research the overdose info properly, but did afterwards. It happened because I was trying to bolster my immunity, etc.... which it DOES! Anyway, magnesium is mostly stored in BONE, like calcium is, sso it is best you get a CONSISTANT supply. Before I took it, I had:

1. headaches.
2. Muscle strain.
3. poor memory.
4. immunity.
5. arthritis.

AFTER I started taking it, 1-4 VANISHED, and #5 was greatly mitigated.

My tip: Eat a varied diet, it will give you (amongst other metals) magnesium and lots of other necessary vitamins/minerals.

I have read that some Auties/Aspies may take comfort in eating the same food over and over, but it leads to deficiencies which may lead to (example) disturbed sleeping habits or much worse stuff.

The body requires you to eat different kinds of food to get all the assorted chemicals it needs to function properly.

We burned magnesium in science class in 10th grade...

Anyway, when I was 14 or so my mother was looking at vitamins for herself in the pharmacy and she found B6 (or was it B12?) and magnesium. She got them for me. She said she got them them for me because she heard they were good for people with AS. I was insulted. Like, I'm just gonna take these pills because I have this mental disorder because you say I have it and you SAY those pills are good for me.

I have been taking magnesium citrate for 2 years, and haven't had any issues with
my electrolytes, one added benefit is it helps prevent kidney stones forming .
