"New Soul" by Yael Nim

The Israeli girl singer's song was made famous in the US by being used in some TV commercial (forget the product).

The narrator is a hapless character (like a space alien fallen to Earth) trying to learn how to survive "in this crazy world", but still "makes every possible mistake".

"Half a Day's Gone and We Haven't Earned a Dime" by Kenny Lynch

Old School funk from circa 1980. The title alone makes one of my favorite songs.

BLEEDING RAINBOW - "Waking Dream"

Everything that I dream
I wanna see in front of me
Please take me away,
I know I can sleep when it's over

Sunshine is all I see
Life running over me
I've found everything I need
And now I can dream

Walk a little more
Until we find what we're looking for
I'm alive in this place
I only feel love
I do not hate

Sunshine is all I see
Life running over me
I've found everything I need
And now I can dream

Sometimes I never want to hear the things I've heard before
I'll take a trip to find a way to risk it
Life is such a bore
And when I come back I'll be ageless as before

Never met so many people
I'm awake and I feel
Too far gone
Tired of this noise around me
This sound is all I ever hear
So i escape, away from this place
It's not too late

Sunshine is all I see
Life running over me
I've found everything I need
And now I can dream

Sometimes I never want to hear the things Ive heard before
I'll take a trip to find a way to risk it
Life is such a bore
And when I come back I'll be ageless as before

The classic French ballad from the 1960's by Françoise Hardy: 'Tous les garçons et les filles'.

- about someone who sees her peers finding love and making plans for the future so easily, while she can't work out how to do it.
(It's also available in English as 'Find me a boy')

Great classic rock song, but I don't see what it has to do with aspergers.

It's more ADHD than aspergian in theme.

Mother Mother - Get Out the Way

Hey, there's something in the way
Oh, it's just me and my brain
Look, there's an elephant in the room
I know, I'll make a piano and play a little tune
And I'll write the perfect song for the perfect day
Might take a little time before my song gets played

Just get out the way, get out
Get out the way, get out
Get out the way, get out the way, get out the way
Just get out the way, get out
Get out the way, get out
Get out the way, get out the way, get out the way

There's spit on my face
The hot breath of the human race
And I know, I know, I'm supposed to integrate
But hows about instead I inch away?

Just get out the way, get out
Get out the way, get out the way, get out the way
Just get out the way, get out
Get out the way, get out
Get out the way, get out the way, get out the way

I'm not anti-social
I'm just tired of the people
And I'm fine with rolling solo
So get out

Just get out the way, get out
Get out the way, get out the way, get out the way
Just get out the way, get out
Get out the way, get out
Get out the way, get out the way, get out the way

The Professionals 1-2-3

You don't know if I'm a berk
And you don't care if I go to work
As long as I keep marching up and down
Up and down your parade ground
What's the use in saying what you mean?
Just wash yourself and keep your body clean
I know I've got a dirty face
I know I'm looking out of place
I know I've got mess on my shoes
What am I supposed to do?
And it's one, I'm on the run
And it's two, I don't know what I've done
And it's three, you're telling me
I'm still a baby
What am I doing standing here
Trying to be a brigadier?
You're telling me to be a man
Why can't you just understand?
What's the use in saying what you mean?
Just wash yourself and keep your body clean
I know I've got a dirty face
I know I'm looking out of place
I know I've got mess on my shoes
What am I supposed to do?
And it's one, I'm on the run
And it's two, I don't know what I've done
And it's three, you're telling me
I'm still a baby, a baby, a baby, a baby
And it's one, I'm on the run
And it's two, I don't know what I've done
And it's three, you're telling me
I'm still a baby.

I'm pretty sure "Creep" by both Stone Temple Pilots and Radiohead (different songs, same name) are pretty good examples.

"Think you're kinda neat then she tells me I'm a creep
Friends don't mean a thing guess I'll leave it up to me"

and then,

"But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here."

A lot of Queen Adreena's songs - "Sleepwalking," "Childproof," "Birdnest Hair." Most of Katie Jane Garside's lyrics resonate really powerfully with me, and have for years, but it's interesting now in the wake of my recent self-diagnosis - particularly when watching her interviews. It's sad because the comments on youtube or so cruel - that she's crazy/on drugs/embarrassing to watch. Because she has a hard time articulating herself, and looks everywhere but at the person she's talking to, and will fidget and touch her face and hair and gesticulate strangely... Sound familiar? I don't know if she actually has Asperger's or some form of autism, as it's never been stated anywhere, but, whatever it is, the way she channels herself into her music and stage performances is really beautiful.

Also, I've been listening to Aesop Rock's 'Impossible Kid' album a lot recently. Not Asperger's related, exactly, but... dealing with depression, isolation, not quite fitting in. It can get a little heavy, and a lot personal, but it never feels hopeless, and he's actually pretty hilarious - in a wry, dark sort of way. I recommend anyone on here who likes hip hop at all give it a listen.

Any time someone asks what Asperger's feels like to me...

No, it's not a happy song. It does describe the sort of struggle I go through with autism on a daily basis though. When I've said I make war on it, I meant it.

Awesome song, though.

Quote:
You see me now a veteran of a thousand psychic wars
I've been living on the edge so long
Where the winds of limbo roar
And I'm young enough to look at
And far too old to see
All the scars are on the inside
I'm not sure that there's anything left to me

Don't let these shakes go on
It's time we had a break from it
It's time we had some leave
We've been living in the flames
We've been eating up our brains
Oh please don't let these shakes go on

You ask me why I'm weary, why I can't speak to you
You blame me for my silence say It's time I changed and grew
But the war's still going on, dear, and there's no end that I know
And I can't say if we're ever...
I can't say if were ever gonna be free

Don't let these shakes go on
It's time we had a break from it
It's time we had some leave
We've been living in the flames
We've been eating out our brains
Oh please don't let these shakes go on

You see me now a veteran of a thousand psychic wars
My energy's spent at last
And my armor is destroyed
I have used up all my weapons and I'm helpless and bereaved
Wounds are all I'm made of
Did I hear you say that this is victory?

Don't let these shakes go on
It's time we had a break from it
Send me to the rear
Where the tides of madness swell
And been sliding into hell
Oh please don't let these shakes go on
Don't let these shakes go on
Don't let these shakes go on
