I really wished for a full on meltdown this afternoon so I could let off some huge stress.

My latest ASD moment was at my daughters project presentation at school.

First the kids were to have their presentation for the parents, then the kids and parents were to have a barbecue in the school yard.........

I don't have any real contact with any of the other parents so after the presentation I ended up just wandering aimlessly around the area alone, clutching my plastic bag with our hot dogs, just feeling more and more awkward, the dangling plastic bag turned into a perfect stimming tool (yanking the bag up and down in my hand with the tips of my fingers) the motion becoming more agitated the more freaked out I got.

My daughter prefers her hot dogs uncoocked, and I, naturally, wasn't hungry, so thankfully I didn't have to navigate the shared barbecue pit, but I'm sure someone noticed that too...

The only one I talked to was a lady that approached me and asked if I wanted to be part of the class parents council (I'm Norwegian, I don't really know what you others call it) which I answered with a loud, horrified "No!" and too late realized my mistake when I saw the shocked look on the lady's face....

She quickly left me alone, and after this I felt even more terrible, I had to go behind the school and try to plug up the tears that started forming in my eyes, and when I had it somewhat under control I had to wrangle my happily playing daughter to the car before the function was over.

My car was, of course, parked in, but never underestimate a desperate Aspie!

I'm sure I either shrank my car or the telephone pole by sheer force of will as I squeezed my car out the wrong way between another car and the telephone pole and threw my daughter in the car and fled.......

My main special interest is birds. While driving to Sheetz to get gas, i nearly ran off of the road looking up at a bird flying overhead.

You're very brave posting that. I would have been too embarrassed to post about it of that happened to me.

haha, it doesn't bother me. No one else was nearby on the road and it wasn't a blatant veering, just took a slight swerve to correct myself. It was also a rather large bird, not a garden variety robin or mockingbird, so I was curious.

Reminds me of how I got so distracted by a billboard yesterday that I drifted into a chain-link fence while I was walking down the street. It was a fairly crowded street, too.

This morning, I had an anxiety attack when I woke up, because of my work, so I had to call in sick... :(

Boyfriend fixed really harsh grating squeak/squeal in my office chair, took the whole thing apart, put it back together (just so he wouldn't have to go out and buy another one), I take it for a test spin, promptly smashed the **** out of my knee on the corner of my desk.

Knee is still throbbing, but hey, my chair is now noise free.

Discovered something that could potentially develop into a special interest, and I haven't been able to stop talking about it.

It wasn't any fun, I'll tell you that..!

The worst part is that I'll have to deal with these people for at least 4 more years, some of them for 7, and that my poor social skills DOES affect my daughter's relationship with her classmates.. :(

I'm sorry. I wish it wasn't so hard. For me the only thing that makes it better is practice, unfortunately. If I'm out of practice for even a week I start getting really flustered when I'm in social situations.

Is your daughter AS? If not I'll bet she will be able to get on OK with her classmates even with your struggles around the other parents. And when she's older neither her nor the other kids will need to rely on parents as much to get some social interaction- from my observations it just seems to happen on it's own (it didn't with me, but I had my own problems  ).

No, my daughter does not have AS, just an iron will and she's not afraid to use it, to my and the school's great frustration.. :)

It's been a very aspie morning for me.

Before I got ready this morning, I mused for a bit on the geometry of my iPhone.

When I rode into work on the bus, I counted the "suspender" cables on the suspension bridge I cross. There were 285 pairs of cables by my count per side.

When I got to the building I work in, a coworker waved at me. My reaction in my head: "Uh...who are you...oh... Oh!" Faceblindness isn't a major issue for me, but every now and then...
