I used to think that when people spoke of plans that wouldn't work because the energy flow was wrong or the structure unstable they were being funny intentionally.

I first heard the term stomach bug in a episode of Rugrats when I was 13 so I thought grandpa was lying when he told Stu and Didi he had a bug in his stomach. Well he was lying but I thought he meant a real bug in is stomach.

I remember that episode too. Come to think of it a LOT of Rugrats episodes are responsible for some of the things I believed as a child, for instance that getting "fired" from work somehow involved actual fire and that "pushing paper" was literally pushing stacks of paper around the room with a broom. And when a police officer arrested and handcuffed someone, they handcuffed themselves to the person.

"Getting fired" probably refers to a certain National Cash Register Co. executive who arrived at work one morning and found his desk on the front lawn, in flames. Until then, people were just "given the sack" - a bag to carry their personal belongings home in.

I attended an amateur skit one night, and one of the characters came hobbling in, carrying a 2-gallon pail. He put it on the arm of a couch, and laid down on it, with his head at the other end. There was some dialogue about his failing health, followed by a pause. Then, he raised one leg and kicked the bucket.

I thought that when animals were put to sleep, they just made them go to sleep. Didn't know that they killed them.

I was a sheltered child that had lived in a rural area, so before I went to kindergarten, I had met very few children. Therefore, I truly believed that every child I met was my friend, since that had been my experience before, both in life and on TV.
After a while my mom wondered why it took me much longer than anyone else to leave the school after the final bell rung. It turned out that I was literally the last kindergarten student to leave every day, because I would stand by the door and say goodbye to every student in my class, likely because parents always make their children wave goodbye to their friends and family after a visit.
