You've seen 'in the middle, somewhat elevated'!?! I love that ballet! I didn't see Sylvie Guillem do it, but I did see Pacific Northwest Ballet do it years ago. It's awesome! I've never seen Sylvie Guillem live, but I have seen her on television. She is crazy!

incidentally - the picture of you at the barre - it's difficult to see who's shortest, cos of the perspective. care to tell me how many from the left you are?

It's easier to tell from the right. I am the second on the right.

as you can tell, i like a lot of the contemporary stuff - ever heard of the lunatic louise lecavalier who used to dance with La La La Human Steps?

No, I haven't. My mum might have though. I can't ask her because she is out of town teaching at a summer intensive (she's a ballet teacher).

I am so happy that I've found another ballet lover! Yay! :D :D :D

My current avatar is a crayon outline of my face. It might be a little too gaudy, so I might change it soon.

You kind of have that dezi arnaz look going with your new avatar you have.

I don't know about gaudy though... Post a current pic or yourself so we can decide.

That's why I used the crayon contour drawing. I didn't want to post my actual likeness. This comes close, but I feel it is different enough to protect my identity. I made it just last night using a photograph taken within the past couple of weeks; I printed the photo out, used permanent marker to mark the major contours, traced that with pencil, and then went over the tracing in crayon. I then shaded some areas in. After I was finished with it, I scanned the drawing in, scaled down the image, and made it my new avatar.

My current avatar is a thought-provoking analysis of the commercialism of television and mass media in general, highlighting such incidents as the Australasian pay TV wars of the 1990s, the death of the live playhouse presentation, the fall of vaudeville-influenced variety, and the lack of strong sock puppet role models for children to identify with. Plus the fact that it is summer here at the moment and there's nothing good on.

The cartoon character in my avatar is Wilson Fisk (Kingpin) from Marvel Comics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kingpin

He's one of my all time favourite villains ( or anti-hero). I chose the avatar because I just like the pic - it hopefully conveys coolness.

Mine is a not-so-good picture of a passionfruit flower. Here's a better picture:

Image

Here's one explanation for its name: "This tropical fruit is said to be named not for the passionate propensity it promotes but because particular parts of the plant's flowers resemble different symbols of Christ's crucifixion, such as the crown of thorns"

Not only are the flowers striking, they are like mandalas and I love loooking at them. But the fruit is the best part. I have a vine fruiting in my yard, and we eat them all the time. I make lilikoi syrups to put on pancakes, ice cream...yum yum...I am passionate about the passionflower vine (aka lilikoi in Hawaii)

Mine is a picture of the characters on my favorite cartoon, "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends." The boy is "Mac" and the blue guy is "Blooregard Q. Kazoo"....or just "Bloo".

My current avatar (I change it quite often) is of books on a desk, mostly old books. It kind of reminds me how I picture Elrond's study to look (from LotR). I am a huge LotR freak and love to read and write stuff, so that's my avatar.

When the time comes, I hope to put a chemistry-related avvie in. It's of a benzene ring made out of those models and my friend made it. :D Unfortunately, it is too large, so I have to figure out how to link it from another site...

Looks like something from one of the earlier scenes from Moulin Rouge...

(still tripping over some of the hundreds of threads lying around on this amazing site)

The artist Mr Rowland Emett created the "thing" on the left .
(his creations were, officially "Things")
And my appreciation of his work is there in both that and my choice of screen-name.

And in some odd but very real way, it is recognisably me.
