I don't understand how knowing the preferred date will help us know how many people from the UK would be involved. :?

Slovenia doesn't feel central to me at all. Basically it's out of the question for me.

Nor do I think that a majority of Brits needs to mean a UK location, because I got the impression on this thread that those Brits actually interested in travelling at all would prefer to go abroad, and those who aren't wouldn't go further than their nearest town, probably, and then only for the day, at the outside.

The location is fine but people baulk at the idea of sharing a cottage with strangers. You never know what irritating habits may emerge in real life that are hidden in plain text! We could find a suitable B&B near Ouinon, though.

We should start a new thread intended for the 20- 30 people who said they'd come / probably come, and ask their preferred dates. Then we set the date according to the preferences of the majority. And last, we choose a venue that is centric to those who accept the set date.

Thats sounds sensible, because date is maybe the least negotiable aspect. You could theoretically borrow money but you can't borrow time! Fixing the month would be a big step towards deciding where to go.

Ouinon, for date I meant a poll that had each month from April - Sept, allowoing selection of more than one because, for example, someone may be free in any month apart from June and July.

Just keeping the more-or-less consensus basic requirements for the gathering on the current page. Does anyone disagree with anything about this?

Quote:
B&B/Inn/Small Hotel with an outdoors area large enough for us. A group rate may be negotiated, but individual will be responsible to pay for their accomodation, including any up-front deposit. En-suite preferred, but not a deal-breaker. Accessible via public transport, and there must be places to visit nearby also easily accessible via walking or public transport. Within, say, 50km of an airport.

I think we would need some sort of lounge area available during the day for the group in bad weather/evenings.

So we need another poll already for date selection, ... except that my date selection depends on where we go, and vice-versa. :( :? And I suspect that will be the case for many.

That's what I was thinking of, but I thought that you meant one attached to the location/place poll in some way.

People should mention any time restrictions they have, not preferred time of year. Accomodating restrictions is necessary and possible. Accomodating preferences isn't.

Okay, a poll for dates:

Choice of 7 months from April to October, and the request to state in thread whether would be available at weekends only, weekdays only, or either. Will that cover it? I don't know how to create one with multiple responses though.

Any time of the week in August, or weekends the rest of the time if near enough to my home! :)

How would you organise that in a poll, to establish when exactly people were free and for how long etc?

I think we are only at the stage of preferences, for both time and place. Restrictions is for later/ in a week or so perhaps, when have achieved a rather more solid connection/group of interested.

Do you mean you're more flexible time wise if the location is near to you. Is that right? If so, then it's safe to assume that everyone is in the same position and what we really need to find out is the best month for travelling *anywhere* regardless of destination.

Otherwise, I can't imagine why, for example, a UK resident would be free to go to Sweden, but not Italy in say, July.

Anyway, I'm beginning to think we should just forget a vote on country, just opt for southern France as it seems acceptble for most who have expressed an interest. As long as it's not too far for Greentea.

The risk of a vote, Ouinon, is that you may find 15 people all vote for Slovenia in June and you can't make it even after all the work you've put in to it. :(

That's democracy for you.

I would be interested to see what places/countries people voted for but I suspect that, even with only one vote-option each, it will end up being such a scattered vote that may end up going for a date which suits all anyway!

So, a poll for people's "preferred month to travel to a WP gathering anywhere/somewhere in Europe". Is that ok with everyone? who is doing it? :)

How about something in the vein of....

"About 20-30 of you have expressed an interest in a Europe WP meet-up. Re dates, please indicate any month/date restrictions you have so we can try and accomodate everyone's restrictions to maximize attendance."

I just posted a poll for preferred month. :D It should give us some idea.

People who were interested in this thread will probably check it to see what's happening, ( so long as it stays live, as it is ), and realise they can go and vote.

Might aswell post the other poll at the same time.

Because if the date poll says "to travel anywhere" then it doesn't matter if the two run concurrently. We can do something in more detail after getting an idea about date and place preferences.
