So the two preference polls are up and running, well, toddling anyway.

I wondered whether it might be worth investigating B&Bs/small hotels near me just in case results ( of the "place-poll" ) are so scattered that no consensus is reached, and it all boils down to date. but I do feel anxious about organising something around my own needs like that!

Anyway, even if it was "only" you ManErg, and Lotusblossom, Greentea and a couple of others it would be fun, so long as I didn't have to go further than the central Southern area of France. I would love to meet up with you.

I don't have a garden, or even a spare room at the moment, otherwise I would offer to "house" a couple of people who have very little money for the accommodation side of things.

How about something in the vein of...."About 20-30 of you have expressed an interest in a Europe WP meet-up. Re dates, please indicate any month/date restrictions you have so we can try and accomodate everyone's restrictions to maximize attendance."

That sounds like a very good idea for a thread when we have a slightly better idea about when most people would be able to go, and where. A way of narrowing down the search for a hotel/B&B etc.

I wanted to ask actually whether you, or anyone else, had ever been to the central part of Southern France? It's full of roman ruins, and lots of little cafés in small squares with platane, ( lime? ) trees, and little lizards on walls in summer, and people drink pastis/ricards, and play bowls, and the pace of life is slower, and there are tiny round goats cheeses to eat with fresh tomatoes and tapenade, ( olive paste ), and cheap wines, and there are the hills leading to mountains on either side of the huge Rhone river, through the gorges and ravines of the Ardeche towards the West and the dead volcanoes of the Auvergne, and through the fields with goats and poppies and olive trees towards the Alps on the Eastern side.

 In July there is the Festival of Avignon, with almost constant, ( and free ), street theatre/art, and also performances, ( that you have to pay for though ), in the grand 12 th century Pope's Palace and other beautiful buildings, for two to three weeks, ( from the 4th to the 26 July ). :) :?:

Sounds awesome!

Actually, I´m game to go almost anywhere, so long as it´s interesting. I´ll probably be in America from mid-July to mid-August, so before or after is better.

Bummer about Autscape. And I was so interested before. Oh well....I know when I´m not wanted. :(

You need to copy this to the "Where To Go " poll as that should finally destroy the London vote!

When I think of the idyllic European holiday, I think of eating new and exotic food on street cafes in the sun, gorgeous scenery, perhaps mountains in the distance, the locals wandering by going about their lives slowly and in touch with the inner depths of a life lived with meaning. Long evenings sipping wine on the seashore

When I think of London, I think of incessant drizzle, police sirens, foul smelling air, drunken yobs coming out of seedy pubs, shouting to be heard above the traffic, 24 hour terrorist alert, Mary Poppins and Jack the Ripper. The horror....

I just did. :)

But it may actually put some people off. Who knows, to some people it might sound appalling. 8O

Someone just pm'd me with a wonderful vision for a gathering of people on the spectrum, a Glastonbury Festival of AS! :D Hundreds, thousands of auties and aspies!

I love this idea. It's beautiful. :flower: :flower: :flower:

Do you think that WP could pull it off? I think WP might have just the energy that it would need. :D

I don't think they meant at the actual Glastonbury Festival, but create an AS equivalent. Sounds amazing doesn't it. :D

megabus.com is cheap for booking advance train tickets in advance in the uk- you travel on normal trains, just book a few weeks in advance- £1 rather than £30. this would make getting about the uk, or even to airports /eurostar cheaper.
summer would be better so people could camp- i dont like sharing a room.
you could easily hire a campsite in a village, with houses etc near by to rent too.

I think though, in all seriousness, something like a meet combined with a music and/or arts festival....and in particular at some point there should be WP @Glastonbury (due to all the extra events) would be good-non-agist, non-sexist, camping, variety of music and crafts.......(carefully covering up my literalism there)

as long as it doesn't go all Altamont...
(very old music biz joke)

yes, but glaters has noise all night, people off their faces wandering about being annoying, and lots of noise and smells. uyou cant really escape it too much- you always get nightmare campers nearby. its not idea for noise/smell/space sensative people. but

have you been to lit fest?? its PERFECT!!

www.porteliotfestival.com

Image

in the grounds of a stately home in cornwall- last time i went i heard pop poetry, and the last journalist to interview phil spector before he was nicked, michael evis etc speak- its really dieverse adn interesting; comedy etc- its not liek hay or anything- its more like the greenfeild tents at G.
its very laid back, people getting slowly drink in the sun, rather than banging techno all night and people vomiting on tents, takeing a bunch of pills..
its on an estury, which is lovely to swim in, and there is a railway station- st germans- about 5 mins walk, so you dont need to drag stuff miles, and you can take masses of stuff.

its not advertised, just word of mouth, so its a more um- select- ie trendy, litterati crowd, but ina nice way.
my friend got mugged last time we went to glasters (91).
and you can rent houses near port eliot, if you dont want to camp.

Not the actual Glastonbury, but create the equivalent of it.

The picture you posted reminds me of Keele University, etc, with its great old hall, 16th century belltower, green spacious grounds, and the lakes etc.

That's why I think Keele University campus, ( near the Peak District, between Manchester and Birmingham ), could be a wonderful place for a big/huge AS gathering, ( if the UK turns out to be the most practical/convenient for most people in Europe ), precisely because of those sort of factors, including plenty of rooms, ( 800 ensuite, 2000 standard ), and small village nearby etc.

But lets just get a few, ( 5-10-15, maybe more ), people together this year, ... ... and PLAN!! ! :D
