You should reply to all messages. Just don't simply ignore the. if you dont want to talk, then tell them, if they write you again, then you ignore them, that way you wont send the wrong message by ignoring them or replying. but dont simply ignore the message, cuz ow would you feel if you sent someone a message and they ignored yours?..so be generous and kind and say "i dont want to talk to you" or "do i know you" or something along those lines. You never know, these people may be interesting people, but simply ignoring the message, i wouldn't go that route because it's messed up, i dont like when people ignore me. but do what you want to do

Have to disagreee; if the message is unsolicited or has questionable content, do -not- reply and further the problem. Report the situation to the moderators and allow it to be resolved that way. If it is a conversation you wish to start, that is up to you - but I don't think any member is under obligation to respond to PMs from strangers.

...and if I am online, I'm usually working - not juggling abundant free time.

1. Henriksson writes a PM to you after hearing that you are ill, injured or in trouble offering you their best wishes and hoping that things get better.

Do not reply, instead tell a mod

2. Henriksson telling you about something you have never posted.

Check what you have posted, then send them a polite PM telling them that you think that they have mistaken you for someone else. It happened to me once when someone got the authors in a thread mixed up. Henriksson has probably eaten too much candy again.

3. Something rude, sexual or threatening, eg "I want to $%£& you and £$%&* etc"

Do reply, with a message saying 'Har har, very funny'.

4. Henriksson trying to sell you something, eg "Do you want to buy Viagra, timeshare, new hard disk, stocks and shares etc"

Do not reply, instead tell a mod. Henriksson never gets involved with such activities, so someone must have infiltrated his account.

5. Henriksson writes to you about some topic you have posted on, they might be offering you an insight or information.

Do reply, also they might become your friend. Though he's probably just being a smug bastard.

6. Henriksson has asked you to get involved in a controversial matter, who is trying to recruit you to fight his battle.

Join the Revolution/Hide in the basement

7. Henriksson asks you to get involved in some commercial activity which looks too good to be true. That may well be some new version of the 419 fraud.

Do not reply, instead tell a mod. Henriksson never gets involved with such activities, so someone must have infiltrated his account.

That made me smile, a rather different set of suggested responses.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

Personally, I'd welcome any PM.

I'm on the Arts board begging people to PM me ! !!

If you got one about selective autism or similar, with a link at the end, its spam. Delete. The moderators are on it and trying to keep any more from going out.

I would suggest that anytime you get a message that seems to have an agenda behind it you can ask a moderator for an opinion. If someone is using this site to send pm's that are basically spam, we want to know about it and stop it.

Otherwise, most pm's are just friendly and worthy of a polite response. I'm not single so I don't know if the singles get more pm's from those looking for something more ... that might be more, well, complicated ;)

Yeah. That's the one I got.

I actually did reply to it... with an insult.

Sometimes I get really weird PMs from people I hadn't been talking to in a topic and it kind of takes me off guard, but the spam PM was why I made this topic. I didn't know if it was spam or from someone who "thought" they knew me.

How can you tell if someone deletes your PM? I know we can tell if our PM has been read but I am not sure if it stays in our unread inbox when the person just deletes it without opening it.

I just tested it by sending a message to myself, deleting it without reading it, and checking my outbox. It disappeared from my outbox.

But to do you know if goes to your read outbox?

I checked that as well- it doesn't.

I got the same, but from sumpr. Seem the spammer got more that one account. At least it was interesting.... (I didn't know the universe of a schizophren could be so fascinating...)

I think it's the same person and he or she is really obsessed about Amanda. That person wants to get everyone to believe what he thinks is true. I used to question it too and wonder if this was all true about her until I was shown the link to her medical records. Then I knew the rest I hear about her is propaganda.

yeah, what Spokane_Girl says.

If anyone gets a PM from anyone that wants to make WP their soapbox, just cut and paste and send it to a mod. We will get to the root of the matter for ya'.

Depends on an array of factors

What the pm is about
who it is from - I mean, do I know them?
What mood i'm in at the time :(
