I'm really pissed off right now. I just found out that the dr who treated me in the hospital recently said he questioned whether I had AS. Now, he is no expert. Then, my doc said that my two friends with AS that are extraverted can't have AS. I even made a video about how some people with AS are extraverted--doesn't mean always socially appropriate, but does mean extraverted!

It's crazy for these docs to state opinions when they haven't even studied the subject. I, on the other hand, have read book after book, article after article, and made 65 YouTube videos on AS. I've been assessed by three drs who DID have expertise in AS. I'm just angry at the arrogance of the drs.

Aspergers is often missed in females, I was diagnosed with tourettes, and 13 years later Mild Autism/Aspergers/Severe Sensory Processing problems. I ended up in the hospital from a nervous breakdown at work while I was still being diagnosed as being on the spectrum, the doctors there would not listen to me nor did they bother to look into my medical history. They told me I was borderline, and then just called up my doctor to tell them their amazing (5 minute) diagnosis. My doctor stood up for me and told them they needed to look at my files, and then they dropped the whole thing.

Their reason for thinking I was borderline? I brought my sock monkey with me to the hospital and slept with it.
I have one of the most severe cases of sensory processing my doctors have ever seen (so I needed a familiar texture), but the hospital would have known that if they actually asked my other doctor before trying to diagnose me ;)

I don't put too much faith in that hospital, or any short term care hospital, especially when one of the nurses there
told me that they slapped the echolalia out of her niece after I had a tourettes fit from the fire alarms going off constantly
at the hospital when I was there.

Don't worry too much, I was told I speak too eloquently to have Autism for the longest time, but they forget that I have super tourettes memory and can reconstruct what I read in books, hear on TV, exactly as I heard it only applied to the situation. I cannot deal with a situation that I wasn't expecting, and 95% of my relationships with other human beings exists only in cyberspace.

Its easier for them if you don't have Aspergers you have to remember. If you don't have it then you can just change and get "better". Its not a "disease", its hardwired into you to be a certain way, and while we're still all responsible for our actions, there are a lot of things that won't change and thats a hard pill for even a doctor to swallow. A doctor told me that we're frustrating people to deal with so that happens sometimes, when you can't change the person change the axis so it looks like the person is just unwilling to change. You will find people do it in your every day life. You seem fine, you have a job, you've accomplished so much...as if these things were related. We equate success with health and unfortunately one of these things are more acceptable to say than the other:

"You can't have Aspergers, you have a good job and speak well"
"You can't have lupus, you have a good job and speak well"

They talk out of their butts because they don't wanna be caught saying "I don't know" something. They'd rather spew complete bullcrap (even if they believe it) than study the matter one iota, becaues their egos are so huge (hence their entering their chosen profession) because THEY KNOW BETTER THAN EVERYONE.

This.

My Ex-mother-in-law was a nurse and she was an expert at talking out of her butt. If I asked her about something she didn't know about, she would just make stuff up.
