So, what's it like being diagnosed while your parents still look after you? I was a misfit all my life, but arguably normal until I self-diagnosed with aspergers at the age of 52. It took a few more years to make it official. Now I'm a misfit with an explanation, if I can find someone with a high enough tolerance for boredom to listen to it.
I'm married, I have a life of my own. My parents live over 500 miles away. Nothing much changed after my diagnoses. Mom stopped getting mad at me for my obsessions and playing with younger kids. Instead she hooked me up with a 13 year old who had Down's syndrome. Before, she was trying to take the effort to understand me and she knew I had something but didn't know what it was.
