SPOILER ALERT!!

Because he found a job he enjoy which allowed him to persue is favorite interest, he had learn how to interact with people better, and was much better off then at the beggining of the movie

True that was part of it but it wasn't just that. The book he was reading gave us a cryptic message to why he smiled. I found it somewhat hard to understand but i got something from it.
I'd need to watch that ending again to explain it properly.
The book had plenty of meaning!! Combined with what you said of course!

The meaning of the book was that the possums in it were what they watched in the beginning in the park, and now Beth made the book about them, so Adam smiled because it reminded him of that.

There's different ways to interpret it.

My thinking was that he was happy that she finally finished her book and got it published...and maybe also he was happy that she listened to his advice and didn't make the raccoons talk.

I think the point of the ending was that they had both learned from each other and were better off. The reason he smiled when reading the first page of the book was because she used the exact words he had said to her when they were watching the raccoons that night.

I personally found the movie mediocre. I wouldn't say it was bad or anything. I just thought it was too easy. Like, she fell for him for absolutely no reason and when he said inappropriate things and tried to explain them, she accepted his explanation. A very, very small percentage of NT's would do that IMO. In real life, simply explaining something doesn't stop them from thinking you're creepy. Plus, how he could possibly lived to that age and learned absolutely nothing about the rules of social interaction and yet somehow be (apparently) experienced sexually?

It didn't really portray the AS experience IMO. But, as my aspie husband says, they don't have to explain it to us and NT's will never understand no matter what the movie shows. So... *shrug*

My husband liked it and related with the character.
