I am bothered by the attitude that a decent amount of users seem to have about how NT's are all evil and that Aspies are superior by default.

I really don't care for trashing of any group. "They did it to us so we should do it to them" is a fuckdumb ('scuse the language) excuse.

There seem to be many on here who still don't get that both NT's and Aspies are f*****g HUMAN BEINGS.

We are not a different species, and you can argue that till your blue, but your wrong. It comes down to one group clashing with another group. We have different views then them (in general) sure.

Heres something to think about: We can't (ASD people as a whole) seem to get why the bloody f**k NT's do a majority of the things they do. However, maybe consider they don't understand why we do half the stuff we do?

It is unfair to trash an entire group when some of them treat one badly.

Like when a teacher keeps a whole class in the classroom at recess when only a few were misbehaving. not fair on the good ones.

I don't think it's so much a conflict between ASD people and NT people, as it is one between people who value the socially constructed idea of normalcy at all costs, enforcing it ruthlessly, and those who do not, will not and cannot fit into that norm. If one reframes the conflict like that, I think there is a case to be made for one being superior to the other.

Reminds me of a time in fourth grade when a teacher wanted the whole class to report and stay in at lunch break because a few were misbehaving..I didnt go.I ended up in the focus room at another break time as a result, but I would rather have that and be punished for actually defying the teacher than I would punished for something i did not do or participate in.Although I had to do twice as many lines, I did not regret what I did. I did what I did for the principle of what is right.

We need NT's. I know I could not survive without them. However, they need us as well. We are different cogs in the same machine. When I say "we" and "them," I am talking in general terms. I get frustrated sometimes with NT's I work with because I can show them the same thing over and over and while they say they get it, they make the same mistakes again and again. I work on their computers, cars, locks TV's DVD players, plumbing, electrical stuff etc., and they seem to really appreciate what I do for them. They also give me money to support myself, remind me to comb my hair, and make sure that I'm wearing a jacket on a cold day or night. I can say that we are not superior to them and they are not superior to us, although some on each side think otherwise.

LOL you mean sexually attracted to them? Me too. Now if my husband were aspie or if he could just go to get himself tested to see if he is or not, I would be more horny and have sex with him more often, even after I get knocked up and have the baby.

I think that aspies are the ones who have most in common with NT's, apart from the other ones, like autism, I ahve never heard of a person with autism or HFA who is depressed, anxious, suicidal, only aspies.

Must be due to the fact that most aspie still feel the need to socialize which is where most of the frustration come from (at least what I can guess from my own experience). But shrug I cannot speak for other form of autism for I am aspie.

So you wanted to be punished for something you did rather then something you didn't do.
makes sense.

Agreed. Enties may all think one way in general (I don't think they do, though), but there isn't an Entie/Aspie way of thinking. Maybe Aspies just differ from the norm, but not all in the same way?

I would like to say that it may be NT's who bullied you, but thats kind of obvious, no? What I mean is who else was there? Also people have become more tolerant (if just a little) of others with differences over time. Everyone who is different in school gets targeted unless they are feared.

Also you sort of make it sound like only Aspies/Autistic kids get abuse by NT's. In reality there are so many bullying cases in schools, and not so many Aspies. People pick on others who are different. People. People on here make it sound like people with AS and people who are NT are different species.

And I hope to heck you are not saying that Aspies are innocent. Some of the most vicious bullies I have known had AS/Autism/Something. The difference is they are less. Just because one is AS or w/e does not mean they are by default a good person who is just misunderstood and will go through life the butt of every joke.

I am sorry you were a victim of social abuse in school. I truly am. But so was I. So were most of the people on WP. But don't make NT's out to be another type of life that is so different from us.

In some ways I feel a little less sympathy (sorry if thats not what you want). You say from 1979-2007. Thats enough time to either stick up for yourself or stop caring. Really it is. If you were a target for so long it means you never changed. Once people form an opinion of you, it's hard to change it. So sometime to force a new opinion, or like me, grow a thick skin and not care so much. If your a victim for so long, something is wrong. And don't tell me there was nothing you could do either. I don't buy it.

I apologize if this seems overtly targeted, but your post, to me, says: You just got lucky but everyone in my life was a jerk.

Thanks, but I didn't say I haven't grown a thick skin or that I care what those people said/thought. I meant that i am aware they were trying to be bi*ches to me (mostly women, for some reason) not that I cared about the garbage they tried to pull on me.

I'm just happier now that I'm on disability and don't have to listen to their cr*p anymore. It's much more peaceful. And it's odd, now that my disabilities are more visible, the NTs are much nicer to me. My physical disabilities were visible before, but I didn't need a cane until 2008. Somehow a simple cane makes all the difference. Maybe the nice NTs just didn't have any reason to speak to me and identify themselves until the cane gave them something to talk to me about.

When I use the term NTs I only mean the nasty ones. I don't call the others NTs. I used to use the term NTAs for the nasty ones but that term has gone out of favor on the forum.

I'm often lazy and today didn't feel like reading all 44 replies in this post, so what I say may have already been noted.

I keep seeing a recurring statement in various threads that goes something like this: "Not all Aspies have had good experiences with NTs."

I just want to note that not all NTs have good experiences with NTs and thus, why would people with AS be any different?

I agree with the post mostly, however, the attitude it represents as seeing those with those views as being wholly unsavory people because they live with a very strong stereotype is rather unaccepting in itself. Granted, that is not a concession that their views are justified, they're not. But, what should be done is a gentle prod and showing how their views are incorrect. Telling someone that they shouldn't view all NT's or Blacks, Whites, Muslims or Jews, Democrats or republicans as bad just because it's wrong and to say it with your own contempt for their prejudice normally just tends to set them harder in their places. That's where they start to turn on you, thinking you're simply trying to undermine them.

It's a nasty part of humanity, but sometimes their prejudice has a very good reason, despite being wrong. If a woman is raped when she's 12 and starts to hate all men because of it, yes it's wrong, but you have to gently and subtly convince her of that, not "You're being wrong and cruel, now stop it." That just doesn't work with humans unfortunately, it wouldn't work with any emotional beings. Try to get a dog to like people after it's been beat by a bad owner for most of it's life, you won't be convincing it to not bite you any time soon, I guarentee it, especially if you smack it on the nose for biting you.

I am considered to be a moderate to high functioning autistic. Your statement may be true to a point, but I thought about suicide during my early 20's. This was due to the fact that despite my education and training, I was not able to get any kind - even a menial job (like other people could). I have at times worked for other people when someone was so impressed with my work, they would get me a backdoor way into a job. I have have been pretty happy since that period. However, when I do work, I work for myself.

I teach my Aspie students how to work on computers. and other technology. I teach them not only the academic part, but also the tricks of the trade that is not taught in a college or trades school. I don't teach my students how to work for someone else, but rather how to work out of their homes with a minimum start up cost. People seem to appreciate and praise my skills, but businesses seem to never want to hire me. That is OK though now that I know I have to work for myself if I want to make a living.
