Screw what people say. You did the responsible thing by withdrawing instead of staying there and having a meltdown.

If you want a "normal" (NOTE THE INVERTED COMMAS) excuse for taking some alone time, you could ask to go to the toilet and have a few minutes to calm down. Or like others said, say you overdid it or feel sick.

Yeah, bathroom's a good place to hide. Probably better than an empty room (because if you're locked in a cubicle/in the toilet you're completely safe; nobody can burst in on you). That's where I tend to retreat to if out clubbing or partying and on the verge of overload, and 90% of the time I don't even get caught out; people just assume I had to go to the toilet hahaha.
