I have an early memory of being sad and reluctant to throw away my old pair of sandals. I just really felt it was an injustice to them; they had character and had been loyal. I was three.

:( i wish you hadn't have thrown 'em out either. the japanese have a "hare kuyo" or needle shrine, for used and worn/broken sewing machine needles, which rest in perpetuity in vats of soft warm tofu, and are venerated and prayed over by shinto priests, in gratitude for the needles' loyal and steadfast service to their owners. i am tearful as i write this. i am loyal to my things and they are loyal to me. i still grieve over things my parents made me throw away back in childhood.

I keep everything. Broken bit of electronics. Train tickets. Christmas cards. I don't know how people can throw out things that have been gifts unless they are broken beyond repair. I have so many boxes full of my memories.
My mum is a throw away person. She threw out a plate I made when I was 5. It had all me neat drawings of cats with squiggles as feet.
I stopped her from throwing out my first toy though. Even if my sister said I should. She's cruel. Stupid cruel sister.

Airplane tickets, receipts, Sakuma Drop candy tins, posters, journals, cards and games.

Especially games. I just can't bear the thought of even selling them away. Thanks to this I have a shelf full of games, some of which I have not played for close to 8 years, also, 1 or 2 games which no longer works due to old age. However, the fact is that childhood was heavily influenced by these few games, I would never, ever throw them away no matter under what circumstances.

Heck, I still can't bear to throw out my near-dead PS1.

Part of the issue is not wanted to throw things awa in case I might need them. Part of the issues is being unable to summon the mental energy to sort through piles of stuff in order to figure out what I do and don't need. Thus, when I am forced to clean, piles of stuff are shoved into one of my two overcrowded closets, allegedly to be dealt with later.

Exactly how I feel.
