I get around using names in face to face situations all the time.

Online is easier because I know they are using a name THEY picked, I think I just have an issue with the names given by others.

I also do not use people's names when speaking to them. It feels wrong and unnecessary. It makes me uncomfortable.

Me too. At work I only ever say "Good morning" to customers, never "Good morning, Mr so-and-so". I can't even force myself to do it.

I have trouble remembering names at work. So when they shake my hand and call me by my name I just have to call them you.

Calling people by their last names without using honorifics like mr/mrs is for fifth graders.

Calling people by their surname is considered very rude here.

I call casual aquaintances "Hey" or "You", aquaintances by their first name, close relatives by how they relate to me and distant relatives by their first name.

The instances in which I use first names depend entirely on my limited ability to remember names, in cases where I'm unable to remember names I call them "Hey" or "You".

Unless they're a teacher, in which case I'd have to call them "Ms. Jones" (for example), I always call people by their first name. I've always thought calling people by their last name was stupid.

What is in a name topic

However the person introduces him/herself, is how I address each person. I may abbreviate a name here at WP if I have to spell out a long one.

When being introduced, i repeat the name I am told, as in echolalia.

Person: My name is John
Me: Your name is John? Is this what I am to call you?
John: Yes.

Or:
Person: My name is Mr Jone Doe
Me: Your name is Mr. John Doe? Do you wish to be called Mr. Doe?
Person: You may call me Mr. Doe or John
Me: Thank you, Mr. Doe
Person: John is fine
Me. All right, John

No problem 8)

I just call them "sir" or "mam" if I must speak to them because if I absouelty have to speak to someone it's only going to be in a situation where I am ordering in a restauant or can't find something in a store. When I do have a casual conversation with someone, it's usualy just one person and when I speak I am going to assume they know it's to them.

I don't say either, I always avoid using names when talking, I don't know why, I just hate using them.

I usually forget their names, so I don't address them by any name at all. In my mind, people aren't identified by their names, but by their unique characteristics--so, my counselor is, "flowing skirts, soft voice, curly hair, shoes with rhinestones" and my electronics prof is, "pot belly, big nose, easy to understand when he talks, engineer." I've known them for, respectively, four months and eighteen months, and have just now memorized their names.

First, when the social convention permits; otherwise (Mr. Mrs. Miss. Ms) <last name>.
