Writing by hand for very long causes shooting pain up the length of my arm. I'm told this is related to my Dysgraphia.

Yeah, I think it's because I don't write much by hand anymore. Drawing doesn't hurt my hand though, just making those little letters with its loops and crosses and such.

My handwriting is pretty awful (but I've learned that outside of elementary school people are actually sane and let you write in print, which is infinitely more legible than even the neatest cursive. Especially the neatest cursive.) but I don't really feel uncomfortable writing. My hand does hurt a bit after writing for a long period of time, but I think it doesn't happen to me faster than it does to most others.

I've noticed that many hold their writing instruments differently, but I also know a good amount of people that hold it like me and write quite normally, so I don't think there's a relation. I'm generally a faster typer (though I only ever use my thumb and index finger, unlike some) than others but that's from many years of practice.

Writing by hand is not comfortable for me. I have to write in a very pedantic way, my writings are calligraphy :P

I write lefty and my handwriting is bad and I often can't read it myself. Long ago I started typing though I never learned to touch type. I sort of have my own system using 3 fingers on each hand.

I can write backwards though.

I have awful fine motor coordination.

It seems like a lot of people have a death grip on their writing implement and carve out letters onto their [s]stone tablets[/s] paper, and tire quickly because they write with their hands, but like playing a bowed instrument, I think it's pretty important to learn how to write with one's arm, and use the weight of the hand and arm instead of applying unnecessary active force. I like writing with a extra-fine nib with a decent amount of flex, since they allow for line variation and shading which personalize one's writing.

It's a shame that handwriting has become so unimportant when it used to be an extension of one's personality--a handwritten letter to loved ones conveys one's feelings and emotions, and this is quickly being supplanted with the rather sterile electronic communication of today.

yes, and i also have the death grip and hold my pen strangely (sort of upside down, if that makes sense, pointed in the wrong direction) and my writing varies from barely legible to so terrible i can't even read it myself. legibility seems to depend on how i'm feeling on a particular day.
