Thank you for the explanation! That is fascinating. In ASL, there is only one sign for hearing, and it relates specifically to the ability to speak. There are several ASL signs for deaf, however. The most common is the BSL sign for hearing LOL but the second most common translates roughly to "ears shut." I don't know the evolution of those signs though, so I don't know which came first.

I would LOVE to learn how to sign! Languages are a big thing of mine and the idea of learning a signed one is absolutely fascinating.

I would need a very patient, kind teacher, though...I get TERRIBLE anxiety when it comes to speaking a foreign language (despite having a great accent and being able to read and write quite well), and I worry it could hit me just as badly if not worse with signing. Also, I am nearly to the point of dyspraxic. Learning dances in gym classes I was always AWFUL at because I couldn't do what the teacher wanted unless they turned their back and I could see it from the same angle I would actually be DOING it at. And sometimes even when I see it I just...have a mental block between seeing and doing. And I get left and right mixed up and all sorts of other lovely stuff.

Though I wonder if, with a great deal of patience from someone, signing could actually help a bit with that?
