I vote pessimist only because I'm a realist, and realistically, life can be really depressing.

At least, that's how people see me.

I voted option 3, thats the easy way out.

A pessimist only sees that long dark tunnel.

And optimist sees the light at the end of the tunnel.

A realist sees the tunnel, the light and realises that after this tunnel comes another one.

Optimists are more open to new ideas and manipulation, look at other things than facts more than facts, sometimes you need to look both ways before you cross a road.
Pessimists are stubborn to new things and pay more attention to facts than feelings, less tolerant of telemarketers etc.

I used to tell people "I only look one way when crossing a road, I feel it adds some spice to my otherwise dull, and boring life.", of course I was kidding, saying it strictly to amuse myself.

I have been a pessimist but I am realizing there is no way I am going to be able to go forward now that I know what is wrong with me without shifting into optimism. There is no way I can keep this same frame of mind, at all. I have been thinking about this alot lately. Before when I didn't know my whole life was wrong. Now that I know I have to find a way to separate this out into categories it affects and categories it doesn't affect. So I don't have to be down about every single thing.

Generally I am quite pessimistic - I think in worst case scenarios even though nothing but perfection is satisfactory to me (so I'm not quite a "defensive pessimist" - except when it comes to politics, of course, as I knew Obama couldn't and wouldn't change the dynamics of US politics).

The "Law of Attraction" is superstitious New Age nonsense and overoptimism caused the economic meltdown.

I essentially live my life under a sort of atheistic purtainism - i.e. while hard work is a neccessary condition to sucess (for most people, excluding generational wealthers), it is by no means sufficient. Everything is determined in causal chains and never be complacent enough to assume you'll never end up homeless.

Optimist, definitely.

Life is too short for the other one.

I would rather live an unsatisfied life full of a realistic understanding than a satisfied life full of delusion.
