I'm a toe walker, its hard to break, I have to concentrate when walking or I will trip over and fall.

I have never been a toe-walker to my knowledge. However, I am a foot shuffler. I do this because it keeps my feet closer to the ground and hence I feel like I am less likely to trip (even though it is the exact opposite when I walk on segmented sidewalks where shuffling is just asking to be tripped by one of the cracks).

I also do not like to be too far from a level ground surface. I always fear falling.

I have also been one not to really touch the hand railings but have my hand hover about them in case I start to lose my balance. I am very sensitive to the oil left behind by other peoples' hands. I despise that feeling. Plus, it just makes it feel dirty. I am not a germophobic. I think, when it comes to my hands, I am a dirtophobic (except for real dirt, I like that). I'm talking about sticky, oily garbage can dirt-type feeling.

For whatever reason, I usually walk that way, though I'm distributing my weight a little better now that I'm doing squats which, in terms of perfect form, require you to keep the weight on the heels. I still climb stairs with my toes, though, haha.

People with Cerebral Palsy also typically walk on their toes (if at all) because one of the effects of CP is that it causes the calf muscles to contract uncontrollably. Most eventually need surgery to reattach or extend the Achilles tendon so that the heel touches the ground when stationary to reduce the strain on the legs.

I walk on my toes so that I feel taller when around my peers. :) It also makes my calf muscles a bit stronger, which is good for swimming. The other thing I've done recently is walking on the sides of my feet slightly. It's fun, but it annoys the heck out of most people. :D

I don't walk on my toes but I do run on my toes and I run ALOT. I usally do drag my had along railings or fences or bushes I did not know this was part of some sensory issue. I also stand on my toes when im standing still I stand on one foot on tip toes and wrap the other around my leg I think I should probably stop doing this because others may think it looks werid. And does every one run on there toes?

I can put my feet behide my head as well. My balance is exceptional. I try walking on tight rope once that was set up in a gym class and I did it with ease.

I saw this man in the libary once that was walking on his tip toes. He was wearing old rags of clothes and did not look as though he had had a shave in some time. And he sat down and read Scientific America Magazines. Wonder if he could of had asperger trates? Maybe not I couldn't imagen being able to cope with a life not caring about my appearance at all like he seems to.

Yes, but I don't have problems with balance like you do. I really enjoy standing or walking on my toes, and it helps to "wake me up" at times. It also makes me feel like a cat.

Same here

By toe walker, do you mean walking without your heel ever touching the ground, or just planting the front of your foot first? I usually do the latter when I'm walking around the house without shoes, because I find it less jarring and quieter than stomping around heel first. When I'm outdoors wearing shoes I tend to slip into more of an even or heel-first style walk. I also walk only on my toes up stairs and run hands along railings.

Is any of that unusual? To be honest I've never given it any thought. I've always been able to walk very long distances comfortably, and I've never had any balance problems.

I'm not a toewalker, but I have poor balance. I don't notice it much in daily life but although I am rather good at doing yoga postures by now (if I do say so myself) I can't do the ones that require balance. Most everyone with a fraction of my experience can do a freestanding headstand, for example.

I have always walked up the stairs on my toes, I can't do it any other way. Also when I'm not wearing shoes I find it easier to walk on my toes.

I walk all the time like NewRotIck explained ( ball of foot first). The balls of my feet hit the ground first followed by the heel. Front part of the shoe is always the first part to go flat. When i get anxious and pace, i toe walk like the rest of you are describing. I never knew the hands on wall thing was related.

Not a toe walker, but have learned to do Irish step dancing on my toes, just the way you're supposed to. 8)

And when I fractured three toes about three years ago, I went to the other extreme and did everything possible to avoid putting pressure on the toes. This pretty much meant walking on the side of my foot, which is not very good to do for too long a time, fortunately am healed now.

As a youth, I was forbidden by my uncle to pursue ballet, and instead encouraged to partake in the manly art of lumber jacking.

I normally don't walk on my toes, however, i generally use the outer sides of my feet when i stand still. Like Knasher..
So instead of standing on my entire foot, i stand on the outer side. Wonder if we're the only ones?
