Possibly Daniel, but still, at times Adam appears to be borderline ret*d... However, I think the implication is that is father kept him sheltered and insulated, so he would feel little societal pressure.
In my case, I had parents who said, "We're not taking your goddam weird crap. Act normal or I'll punch your lights out."
So, between that and harassment by peers, I learn to readjust myself into the miserable person I ended up being... which is why I was so happy with the diagnosis. Free to be me for the first time.
