I seldom observe intentionally. When growing up, in situations like a lunch room table. I found that I seldom said much but listened to people. I remember a tip on how to be a good conversationalist, to listen. That was all I did, and I was not a good conversationalist.

I learned over the years it is not enough to just listen. You have to seem interested in the other person, so therefore ask them questions about themselves. After listening of course ;)
